Bombers launch from Guam to display air power after North Korea threat
Two B-1B supersonic bombers flew from Guams Andersen Air Force Base Tuesday in a display of air power with South Korea, following North Koreas most recent nuclear test. The bombers and several other aircraft conducted a low-level flight near Osan Air Base, according to the military.
North Koreas nuclear test is a dangerous escalation and poses an unacceptable threat, said Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, commander of Combined Forces Command, U.S. Forces Korea, in an Air Force press release.
Brooks spoke of the United States unshakable commitment to defend its allies in the region and to take additional steps, including the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile defense system to South Korea.
A South Korean delegation visited Guam in July this year to see a similar missile interceptor system that the Pentagon deployed to Guam in 2013.
