He's just so.....horrible. At times, I'm just at a loss for words because he's just so horrible.Last edited Thu Sep 15, 2016, 11:53 AM - Edit history (5)
I find myself wanting to expand my thoughts upon the latest Donald Trump scandal or controversy and yet I keep on coming back to the simple fact that Donald Trump is an extraordinarily awful, terrible, horrible human being with no redeeming qualities or values whatsoever.
His horribleness is completely off the charts. He's ugly, both inside and out. While he may not be a complete imbecile, he's not smart--in fact, he purposefully doesn't aspire to be smart. He only aspires to be smarter than the people he's knows he's conning. So in that sense, he's lazy to boot. His life is built around greed, around vanity, around self-glorification. He's accomplished very little of the things that he's bragged to have accomplished. Most of his business adventures have ended in complete failure, and yet he's fashioned himself as a great success. He's petty and vindictive towards anyone who might look at him sideways. He'll show zero remorse for taking advantage of others for his own gain in the most crass and classless ways. The only charity he shows is charity towards himself, very literally. When he speaks, it's only to draw attention to himself and away from others. What he's done over the past year has be for one thing and one thing only: Himself. He seeks to be the guardian of over 300 million people and a country who at least proclaims to be founded on lofty ideals such as freedom and democracy. But throughout that all, the only thing he's ever cared about is himself. He doesn't care about you. He doesn't care about anyone or anything, unless it has to do with him. His appeal to the public is that of trashy reality television. It's that of virus infected internet clickbait advertising. It's that of calorie laden tasteless junk food that doesn't even rise to the level of a delicious guilty pleasure, and only leaves you feeling sick inside. It's that dizzying, flashing, neon lights that promise a great show and without fail always disappoint. And yet, people have inevitably gotten suckered in. They like it. Somehow in the Bizarroland like atmosphere, the ugliness, the vapidness, the utter lack of class or decorum is considered a good thing. His opponent is intelligent, qualified, measured and competent individual, highly capable of standing head to head with the rest of the world's leaders and representing our interests in a proper fashion. She isn't perfect. She isn't without her flaws or shortcomings. If elected, inevitably she will on occasion let us down, just like the 43 men who held the office before her inevitably let us down from time to time. In other words, she's human. But when she takes the debate stage in less than two weeks, she will be the only real human on the stage. Standing at the other podium will be the human embodiment of a loud, intentional, prolonged and unrepentant fart, followed by a smirk and a giggle. Don't get me wrong. He's not the first horrible person to enter politics and he won't be the last (assuming our country and world can survive intact if--God forbid--he is ever elected). For example, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were also horrible people. But the caricatures they invoked--a chuckling cowboy and Darth Vader, respectively--at least were interesting to ponder and expound upon, and dissect their dysfunctions. But with Donald Trump, you just want to avoid him. You want to steer as far away from him as possible. At this point, we've run out of movie villains or animals with which to compare him. He's now much, much worse. He's like green, sickly, slimy, noxious, oozing gunk collecting in the most unwelcome of places. He's the simmering, acidic gassy aftertaste in your mouth right after you've just thrown up. He's just so horrible.

2. Trump bothers me, but not as much as how many people who support him.
It disturbs me the numbers and variety of people who are attracted to demagogues like Trump. They are desperate and suspend even a modicum of critical thinking in order to believe him. They are attracted to his authoritarian demeanor. They hate whom he hates. They feel like satisfied consumers for choosing his brand. And if they are denied in November, they will not recede and go away.
They are the issue more than Donald Trump. |

61. They are not all 'desperate'
That would at least explain them to some extent.
The only people I know who support him are relatives with whom I am 'friends' with on Facebook. At least a couple of them are very well off. So they could see him as the candidate who will keep their taxes low, preserve their 'interests' - in money, in guns, in the status quo, in general. Another relative I know really disliked Trump - but has been taught to hate Hillary more - and she listens to all the conservative crap on TV and internet - so that is all she knows. I had to stop following her on Facebook - because I couldn't take it - seeing the crap she posts. |

67. I know several very well off types like that as well
They didn't like Bush in 2004, but ended up voting for him in the end because Fox News, RW Talk Radio and much of the rest of the media had so successfully demonized John Kerry that they were afraid NOT to vote for Bush. I suspect that it will be the same with Hillary Clinton - the RW has so ginned up fear of her for decades that *some* Republicans will vote for Trump just out of fear for another President Clinton.
Republicans also specialize in getting the single issue voters - guns, abortion, gay marriage, etc: The day after the 2004 election, I had an appointment with a podiatrist. On the surface, you would think he would be a reliable Democrat - fairly young, Jewish and living in a blue state. However, he voted Bush because he hated trial lawyers and John Edwards was a trial lawyer. He even admitted that Iraq was a mistake at that appointment and that he disagreed with almost all of Bush's politics. Similarly - I also had a friend that probably agreed with Democrats on every social issue, but always voted Republicans because he was also really into his guns and Democrats are the party of taking away his guns. (He recently passed away in his mid 40s due to health issues that may have been stopped with earlier access to good health insurance...so, he was voting against his own interests because of that one issues on guns.) |

63. I know exactly how you feel!
I keep going back to - "who the hell VOTES for these assholes?" And I've gotta tell ya - I blame THEM! Just as much as I blame the schmuck they're cockeyed over. That he's given THEM a voice. He, hate radio, Pox Noise, Alex Jones, Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and that guy whose name rhymes with Vanity - they've all elevated these assholes to respectability. Given them a seat at the table. Legitimized their asshole behavior and their even worse asshole attitudes. Allowed it to come out of the closet or the basement or from up in the attic where weird berserko conspiracy-theorist Uncle Harry stays holed up and only brought out to join polite company on Thanksgiving.
Now, it's OKAY to be rude, mean-spirited, and bullying. It's okay to parade around in t-shirts that say "Trump the Bitch." It's okay to be a crude loutish vulgarian. To hail the king of same, and even better yet, to aspire to be little "Mini-Me's" of him. I just heard someone on TV, on Rachel or Brian Williams or one of those a little bit ago this evening - talking about how bullying has increased in schools since Trump. His arrival on the political stage and his shitty behavior is making it okay to be a bully again. It's now okay to resent Blacks and Latinos, AND to say so out loud. It's now okay to be a white supremacist - and not just okay but you should even be proud of it! I just heard, too, that David the-Grand-Wizard-Deplorable Duke boast that THEIR movement is enjoying a nice new upswing. More people interested. More people joining in. More enthusiasm for the Klan than he's seen in a long time. How 'bout that. Trump is Toxic. He's Toxicity Embodied. He's Toxicity Incorporated. And so are his fans. There. I said it. And I meant it, too. They're Deplorables alright. Just like he is. The whole lousy weasel-y lot of 'em are certified Deplorables. |

36. And he's doing just what he did in the primaries, moving up the charts quickly and boldly.
I really fear that we will be living through 4 years of Donald Trump as president and then be dealing with the destruction and the aftermath for the rest of our lives.
People complain that the media covers him much more than Clinton. Well, look at posts here on DU. 90% are Trump. There is almost no discussion of what Clinton will bring the country. Most discussion is how horrible Trump will be and some defense of Clinton. Real discussion of the issues that affect us is very sparse. My feeling is that Trump represents the secret heart of America. The dirty underbelly that we've tried to keep hidden for decades but has always been at the bottom of our soul. The ugly American is being led out into the sunlight. (Not all of us of course, but the underlying soul of the country.) The elements of our country that continually proclaim our goodness and righteousness is a warning sign in itself. People who are actually good and righteous don't need to be constantly informing others about this. Titillation has become a more powerful motivator for voters than logic and retrospection so I won't be surprised, shocked yes, but not surprised, if we see Trump's painting forever displayed along with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D Roosevelt, and Barack Obama. |

I've said before, if there was an alternate universe where George W. Bush was not the president who lied us into a war and bungled the economy, but rather your next door neighbor with whom you small talked with about front lawn landscaping, he'd probably be tolerable. At least in small doses.
But I can't see anything--anything--that could remotely be considered humanizing or likable about Donald Trump. |

41. He is a textbook example of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
If anything good can be said to come from his fame and campaign for the presidency, it will be to provide students and professionals with more information about that condition and its symptoms.

45. I would add Malignant to your Nacrissistic Personality Disorder
He's a particularly aggressive cancer on our country. Look what he's done in one year. He's a tumor growth ravenously gorging on all the vitality and life force of this country while not serving any useful purpose in return.

43. Very well said.
Trump is disturbing beyond belief. I cringe now when I hear his name, and to be blunt his supporters are truly beyond vile. They are cruel sociopaths. I feel sick thinking about how people like this would be emboldened if he were elected. We cannot let him win at all costs.

46. My husband is a psychiatrist/psychoanalyst of 40 some years in practice.
He watched the Forums the other night--Trump and Clinton--I can't stand to watch.
He told me he was fascinated by how Trump pulls you in--just like a snake oil salesman, I said--and he agreed. A lot of people have very self-destructive inclinations, and Trump appeals to them. He validates that it's someone or something else that is responsible for their miserable, unhappy lives and that also, magically, he will fix things for them (rather than someone having to do the hard work to take responsibility for their own lives). And there's zero empathy. Zero understanding that not everyone can change their lives without help..and even then, sometimes, it's the luck of the draw. And he really is offering white supremacy. Boy, oh boy, white male supremacy. The country was founded on it and that's exactly what Trump means when he says he'll "make America great again". Think about it. When the Declaration of Independence was written, it was penned by white male property owners. You weren't included in the "all men are created equal" if you were a man of color. And they didn't mean mankind--they meant men. Not women. The people who are Trump devotees want a return to those days. Scary, scary stuff. But this country is inhabited by a lot of people who really want a return to the days of white male supremacy. |

Trump is a toxic coagulation of the absolute worst ideas and impulses.
Several times each day it crosses my mind as to how bad things will be if he's somehow elected. |

53. At the very least, they've managed to make him into a viable candidate.
Because horse races are undoubtedly better for ratings and ad revenues than landslides.
A candidate like Trump ought to be polling in the low single digits. |
