http://www.bangkokcabin.comI am working in Kennesaw, Georgia and wanted to go out with my family to have Thai tonight... "Bangkok Cabin" gets good reviews here and so we sat on the porch as the restaurant was quite crowded inside. Our server took our order and as he left the table we all looked at each other as we noted he was wearing a large TRUMP/PENCE pin (and we noticed the rest of the staff was as well)... it took us a minute to absorb that fact and my daughter went in to tell our server that we would be leaving and not eating there. As we walked away he asked why and I told him we were offended by the PIN he was wearing... he quickly told us "we make good decisions here!"
We never got to sample the food and marveled that a restaurant with 1/2 the customers AA and servers that are gay could so overtly advertise and support Trump. It was an awkward situation and we decided not to financially support an establishment that so outwardly supports someone we so adamantly reject.
We went to another Thai restaurant in the area and very much enjoyed the meal

(61,695 posts)As close as Georgia is, what they are doing is stupid from every angle. Let them eat their own inventory.

(22,756 posts)is just how divided we all are... not even good Thai food can bring us together

You did the right thing.

(22,756 posts)we thought about trying a discussion with them instead of walking out... unfortunately our experience has been that you can't reasonable discuss much of anything with Trump supporters

(6,974 posts)Sad to hear that African-Americans and gay servers would be affiliated with or spend their monies in this type of establishment, and on top of it the servers wear the campaign pen belonging to that orange-faced, green haired, homophobic sexist, racist pig. Sad indeed how too many allow their monies to promote his hideous agenda which would wreck this country, and all for a meal.
Anyway, I'm happy you decided to spend your dollars where they wouldn't help "him," and it's great that you and family enjoyed your meal this evening as well.

(47,165 posts)After 30+ years of deregulation nonsense we are too regulated. Sure. Same thing on tax policy. Going the wrong way for a long time. We have coddled the billionaires long enough. Your views on marriage are very nice for you. Gun policy can't even be discussed in Kennesaw and you undoutedly have the wrong idea of what Hillary would propose. Same on Abortion. See ya.

(9,670 posts)An old friend told me that once and I never forgot it.
I have done 180's several times after walking into restaurants in Georgia. If you're foolish enough as a business to alienate potentially half of your clients by advertising your political persuasion, you certainly don't need to be rewarded for it.
Unfortunately, outside the perimeter, Atlanta is fire engine red, and the progressive movement is all but stifled.

(6,335 posts)Muslim Insurgency In Southern Thailand Rages, Ignored By Outside World
http://www.ibtimes.com/private-little-war-muslim-insurgency-southern-thailand-rages-ignored-outside-world-1560930
However, while Thai media focus on the problems in Bangkok (and global media cover the crisis in Ukraine and the missing Malaysian airliner), a silent war continues to rage in the remote southern regions of Thailand. Thailand is an overwhelmingly Buddhist country (representing about 94 percent of the population, according to the CIA/World Factbook), but Muslims dominate the three provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat (plus parts of Satun and Songkhla) in the "Deep South" of the country along the Malaysian border. The three main aforementioned provinces belonged to a Malay Muslim sultanate before Thailand (then called Siam) annexed the region in 1909.
Now, more than a century later, Muslim rebel groups in the region, particularly the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (the National Revolutionary Front), continue to reject the authority of the central government 650 miles to the north in Bangkok and have periodically staged attacks in an insurgency against symbols of the Thai state, including even schoolteachers. As in Myanmar (Burma), this is a war that usually pits minority Muslims against majority Buddhists. Moreover, the rebels would like autonomy or complete independence for the regions 1.8 million Malay Muslims, although they lack a unified goal. Marvin Ott, Ph.D., senior scholar with the Asia Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center in Washington, said the rebels in the Deep South also resent the fact that the central government has failed to economically develop the impoverished region.
Many innocent people have died in the bloodshed between Muslim rebels and Thai security forces. Reuters reported that since January 2004, when the latest chapter of the insurgency erupted, almost 6,000 people have been killed and untold thousands wounded or maimed. Peace talks between the government and BRN have stalled and failed to quell the violence and at least 50 people have died so far this year in the insurrection.
The war has been particularly hard on the women married to Muslim rebel warriors and others in the area. Agence France Presse reported that there are some 2,700 registered war widows across Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani provinces. Some of their husbands were Muslims killed by Thai security forces, the others are widows of Thai soldiers murdered by Muslims. As Muslims, widows living in an extremely conservative party of the country (quite distinct from cosmopolitan Bangkok), they have few options. Women often have no voice, said Angkhana Neelapaijit, of the Justice for Peace Foundation, a human rights organization. The expectation is for them to look after the family. They may have little say over politics. For example, if their child expresses sympathy with the movement [rebellion], they cannot control them.

(34,582 posts)are stupid- you're going to piss off half the people. The good thing, though, is the right wing asshats generally can't keep it to themselves. We had a new place open up down the street that I wanted to try, but on their sign was "Mr President, I built this"- their advertising tells me not to waste my money there.

(51,571 posts)You came there to eat, not for them to besiege you with their racist politics. Their establishment is supposed to make all their customers feel welcome. Sporting Trump pins offends a big chunk of their customers. Stupid of them to treat their customers like that.
You definitely did the right thing by walking out.

I simply wrote back, "This is where we part ways. Good luck to you."
And with that, I defriended her on Facebook.
I just don't want anything to do with ignorant people.
It doesn't take a genius to see what an imbecile Donald Chump
