South Australia weather: Entire State without power as massive storm hits

All of South Australia could be without power until the early hours of tomorrow morning after a network failure.

An Emergency Management Council which involves the State Government has begun in Adelaide.

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has urged people not to travel on the roads "unless absolutely necessary".

He said emergency services and hospitals were operating under their own generation.

"They should continue to listen to [ABC Radio] on a battery-powered radio, or use social media to keep up to date as they possibly can," he told 891 ABC Adelaide.

"It could be some hours before this is restored, and that's presently what we're working through."

They had flooding two weeks ago. They've had a very wet winter. From July...

South Australia used to advertise itself as "The driest state on the driest continent". Hmm.

And, of course, a wet winter means a great deal of growth in the vegetation. Bushfire season is just around the corner. Oh, good.

Good luck to my old state. I'll be trying to contact family and friends over the next few days. Most are in relatively safe areas.
