Gov. Scott Walker’s thinly veiled threats against prosecutors are outrageous and dangerous

Cap Times editorial 2 hrs ago

Gov. Scott Walker has imported into Wisconsin a politics that is more outrageous and more dangerous than anything the state has seen since the days of Sen. Joe McCarthy. Well aware that his ideas are unpopular, and that his approach to governing has frequently failed to keep Wisconsin competitive with neighboring states and national measures, he prevails by raising huge amounts of money from out-of-state billionaires and corporate interests and gaming the process with assaults on voting rights, gerrymandering schemes, and a calculated disregard for the rule of law.

Walker's winner-take-all approach to politics breaks faith with Wisconsin Democrats like Gaylord Nelson, John Reynolds and Patrick Lucey and with Wisconsin Republicans like Warren Knowles, Lee Sherman Dreyfus and Tommy Thompson. They were willing to engage in fair fights because they believed — correctly, it turned out — that they could win them.

Walker knows that he cannot win fair fights, that he cannot govern effectively, and that he cannot withstand scrutiny.

This has made him reckless and irresponsible.

But he has never been so reckless and irresponsible as he was last week. ..................

We still do not have adequate answers about election integrity in the Supreme Court race, but now we know that Prosser's win was critical to shutting down the John Doe investigation. What happened in Milwaukee while we were misdirected to watch Waukesha?

This is not about throwing millions in dark money at an election, this is a criminal justice matter and you can't pay off everyone because not everyone in Wisconsin is a Republican crook. Not to mention, Walker doesn't control the US Supreme Court.

U.S. Supreme Court To Decide Whether to Weigh in on Wisconsin John Doe Investigation

LISTEN : The U.S. Supreme Court today will meet in closed session to decide whether to consider Wisconsin’s John Doe investigation. That secret probe was looking into whether Gov. Walker’s 2012 recall campaign broke campaign finance laws by illegally coordinating with outside advocacy groups.

The investigation began back in 2012 when Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisolm launched a probe into Gov. Walker’s recall campaign.

During a previous John Doe involving Walker aides and associates while he was Milwaukee County Executive, it’s believed Chisholm came across information leading him to question certain activities during Walker’s recall campaign.

Those questions center around whether the campaign illegally coordinated fundraising with the conservative group Wisconsin Club for Growth. Four other district attorneys joined the investigation along with a special prosecutor.

In 2015, the Wisconsin Club for Growth brought forth the legal challenge to stop the investigation. .........

I fear that Scott Walker will get away with his stuff as long as he thinks he has nothing to fear from Wisconsin's state courts. Unfortunately for Scottie, that leads to arrogance. Arrogance leads to complacency, and complacency leads to carelessness. People like that start thinking that they're not only immune from state scrutiny, but federal scrutiny as well.

I have come to believe that one of the essential tasks for a Democratic Party in control of the White House and both houses of Congress is to set the Justice Department loose on state houses and governors' mansions mired in ALEC and Tea-bagger corruption. To kill the snake, cut off its heads.

Scott Walker John Doe Document Leak: 10 Illuminating Emails

On September 14, the Guardian newspaper which published the Snowden revelation, published a massive set of documents from the Scott Walker dark money probe know as the "John Doe" investigation. We highly recommend the lengthy expose on secret money and backroom deals, which you can access here. If you don't have time to read all 1,500 emails and documents in the cache, our staff has picked out some of the most illuminating.

At the heart of the matter are three men. Scott Walker, RJ Johnson (who simultaneously worked for Walker and the dark money machine Wisconsin Club for Growth, say prosecutors) and Keith Gilkes who was Walker's chief of staff in 2011and his campaign manager in 2012. Prosecutors were investigating whether campaign money was channeled through a purportedly "independent group" in order to circumvent state and federal rules that set limits on political contributions and require them to be publicly revealed, explains the Guardian.

1. National Club for Growth's David Keating questions RJ Johnson of Wisconsin Club for Growth, who becomes Walker's top campaign advisory shortly after this email, about the legality of his activities way back in 2009 prior to Walker's run for Governor in 2010.

He's on shaky ground now, and when his corrupt operation starts to crumble Wisconsin Republican politicians will abandon him. He has thrown quite a few people under the bus to further his own career, and more than a few Republican legislators are growing tired of the vile sociopath.
