Bundy Brothers, Who Sought to Rally a Nation, Draw Scant Support at Trial

PORTLAND, Ore. — It has been a difficult few months for the Bundys.

Ten months after two brothers from this country’s most notorious ranching family staged an audacious, armed occupation of a wildlife sanctuary in eastern Oregon, their call to shift federal land to local control has softened to a whisper. Some of their allies have abandoned them, and almost a dozen fellow occupiers have pleaded guilty to federal charges.

Outside the downtown courthouse where the brothers, Ammon and Ryan Bundy, and five others are on trial for conspiracy, their supporters have dwindled to a handful of self-described patriots carrying pocket Constitutions and lamenting their shrunken ranks. .....

It is a long way down the mountain from the weeks in January when the Bundys drove around the snow-covered refuge in cowboy hats, leading daily news conferences for an international audience, ripping out government fences and propagating a vision of a West in which the federal authorities owned little of the land. .......

I'm really shocked to learn that nowadays a person can lose his constitutional right to attend baseball games, for a simple armed takeover of federal property!

6. Linda Bundy doesn't appear to be the brains of the family

Dissing the judge while your husband's trial is still in process isn't a smart move in any case. I'm sure Linda and the kids miss Ammon very much, but that's the portion he freely took. Did they seriously think that the feds were just going to let this pass, like they did with the stand-off in Nevada (which they didn't really let pass, they just bided their time until the time was right).

These people don't appear to be candidates for MENSA. I expect the prosecutor to carve Ammon up pretty good on cross.

7. Of all people to comment on bias in this case, she should be the very last one! Multiple reasons.

#1. She is biased.

9. They did not learn any lessons, it seems. But a lot of them plead guilty and likely

those who did provided evidence against others.
