Notice some of these tee shots at the U.S. Open?

Just 30 or 40 yards off the tee the trees are hanging over the fairway so far on both sides you only have a space of about 25-30 yards to get your ball through. I could try to hit tee shots all day long and never get a single ball through those trees. Not exaggerating. I wouldn't get one past the trees.

And these guys can do that all day long. Most of the time.

Little while ago a guy hit one up into the trees off the tee and it stuck up there somewhere. He had just about finished walking back to the tee to hit another ball after a few minutes of looking for the ball in the tree when the ball finally fell out of the tree. He got lucky. Wouldn't it have been something if he would have had gotten two balls stuck up in the same tree?

The pro golfers hit long drives that fly 250 yards, and then roll 20 or so more. My drives fly about 12 inches off the ground for about 100 yards, and then bounce and roll another 150 yards. Sure I'm father back, but I take the trees out of the equation.

Next week is my annual golf trip with old friends from high school. Most of us suck, and its the only time of the year any of us play.

There is nothing like hitting a ball straight into the trees and seeing it come shooting back out way down the fairway ... or seeing it hit the club house.

My brother might break 250yds with his drives and beats me by 5-10 strkes with ease.
Drive for show, putt for dough, as they say... but 'm not ready to learn my lesson.

I've never golfed although I have pissed off golfers - specifically my golfing brother and brother-in-law by being able to outdrive them (weight-lifter). However, I then take another 20 strokes to get it in the hole.
