Mitt Romney Fondly Recalls French Vacations, Anticipates More

The Huffington Post | By Arthur Delaney Posted: 04/23/2012 1:52 pm Updated: 04/23/2012 4:20 pm

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/23/mitt-romney-france-trips_n_1446328.html

During a press conference in Pennsylvania on Monday, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney gushed about vacations in France and said he looked forward to visiting again.

"I have a lot memories of France," Romney said in response to a reporter's question. "The best memories were with my wife on vacations from time to time in France. The last vacation we had there, walking around the city of Paris and walking not just [on] the Champs-Élysées but also over to the Jardin of Luxembourg and around the city -- one of the most magnificent cities in the world. And I look forward to occasional vacations again in such a beautiful place."

Romney previously told the National Review that a president shouldn't take "elaborate vacations" in response to a question about the spending scandal at the General Services Administration.

"The example starts at the top," Romney said. "People have to see that the president is not taking elaborate vacations and spending in a way that is inconsistent with the state of the overall economy and the state of the American family." Starting in 1966, Romney spent 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary.

I was born too young to serve in Vietnam. I had SHIT FITS about it, because it got REAL close. I HAD a draft card while the war was still active.

But if I'd been drafted, I would have served. I was fucking SCARED TO DEATH, but if the war had continued and the draft along with it, i would have served.

That's why I was scared to death about it. And it was over before my number came up.

So FUCK Mitt Romney. FUCK this cowardly silver spoon piece of shit.

It is, rather, about those who supported the war and sending OTHER mothers' sons to die while doing everything they could to avoid serving and facing the same risks themselves.

There is a HUGE difference between draft dodgers who avoided service because they opposed the war, and chickenhawks who avoided serving while supporting the war.

worse than that poor dog on the roof of his car.

Why is it he can brag about his French vacations but we had to rename French Fries to Freedom Fries because the French had the brains to sit out the unnecessary war in Iraq and were therefore, subject to our scorn and ridicule. Anybody remember how we (no make that they - the Repubs) mocked them mercilessly - to the point of being absurd. Back in 2008, I think Obama would have almost been more vilified if he had been born in France rather than Kenya.

Without being wounded! Sure, he was in France during part of it and, technically speaking, never participated in it, but that doesn't change the fact that he survived it, and in good shape too, I might add.

I wonder what sorts of pranks he pulled on the French and if they thought he was as funny as Jerry Lewis.

He had his scrapes back in the mid sixties. There were nights he didn't come home.

Everyone knows how France had a low grade civil war boiling at home after the loss of Algeria in 1962. "OAS" is a name everyone has heard or spoken at some point. They tried to kill De Gaulle a half dozen times according to the scoreboard. Not as many know about the Vietnamese Ninja Deathsquads that roamed Paris at night, taking out Vietnamese dissidents marked for death by Ho Chi Minh. That was the plan anyway.

It was war- le guerre to be precise. And in war the first casualty is always the plan. Ho sent in his intelligence services, Mitt was the counterintell. It was Ninja Charley vs. Mormon Mitt. Black pajamas vs. Magic Underwear. The Inscrutable Force ran into the Obtuse Object. Guess who won? Well, you don't hear about those Vietnamese Parisian Ninja Deathsquads anymore, now do ya?

Did Mitt Romney ‘Long’ To Serve In Vietnam?

By Ben Armbruster on Jun 5, 2012 at 3:10 pm

Mitt Romney regularly prides himself as a champion of the military and the nation’s veterans (despite the fact that has offered little to no details about how he would address veterans issues). Romney recently praised the sacrifice “of the great men and women of every generation who serve in our armed services.” But in a new story examining Romney’s own military record, the AP notes that “it is a sacrifice the Republican presidential candidate did not make.”

During the height of the Vietnam War, Romney avoided military service by seeking and receiving four military draft deferments, some for university study and others for serving as a “minister of religion” in France.

But during his political career, Romney has flip-flopped on whether he actually wanted to serve in Vietnam. In 2007, Romney — a supporter of the war in Vietnam during the late-1960s — said he had wished he had served:

“I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there, and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam.”
