As painful as this must be for these parents, they need to be held accountable and their other child needs to be taken away from them until his safety in this home can be guaranteed.
A 3-year-old Independence boy who died from gunfire accidentally shot himself, pulling out the gun to play with moments after his mom stepped into another room, his family said Sunday.
Joshua Andrew Turner Jr., known as J.J. to his family, died quickly in his dads arms Saturday afternoon as his mom screamed for help.
It is simply horrible, Dawn Turner, J.J.s mom, said just above a whisper Sunday.
She and her husband were in shock, waiting for a coroners report and planning their sons funeral on a day set aside to celebrate fatherhood.

Capt. Ed Turner with the Independence Police Department said family members were cooperating with the shooting investigation.
"They did seem like really good parents, and if it was one of the parents, it would definitely, definitely take me by shock," Battles said.
Turner said police are talking to everyone that was at the house at the time of the shooting.
"I know that when I've gone over there and hung out. They've brought out their guns and showed me," family friend Jeannel Anderson said.

(96,793 posts)However, I don't trust these stupid inconsiderate parents. They can just go out and buy another gun.

(192 posts)Too bad we can't go door to door to make sure these idiots have those things properly unloaded and locked-up.

(1,076 posts)gun owners, they are careless fools. I am a gun owner and I would never consider leaving a gun lying around where a child could find it. What a terrible senseless loss.Oh yea, and good luck with the going door to door thing....

(3,118 posts)- the typical gun owner has guns locked in a gun case. Were these parents "typical" there would be hundreds of such deaths weekly.
What has occurred is horribly tragic and very preventable. Please put back your broad brush and stop painting this as typical because it is not.

(96,793 posts)I'd hate to think this was typical.

Guns should only be granted to those that complete safety courses taught by law enforcement and coroners.

(60,567 posts)Terrible tragedy, it is.
Basic gun safety, including the importance of safe storage, should be taught in public schools. You can't fix stupid, but some people are just ignorant and that CAN be fixed with education.

(62,530 posts)There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign
on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
One Time One Night
A wise man was telling stories to me
About the places he had been to
And the things that he had seen
A quiet voice is singing something to me
An age old song about the home of the brave
In this land here of the free
One time one night in America
A lady dressed in white with the man she loved
Standing along the side of their pickup truck
A shot rang out in the night
Just when everything seemed right
Another headline written down in America
The guy that lived next door in #305
Took the kids to the park and disappeared
About half past nine
Who will ever know
How much she loved them so
That dark night alone in America
A quiet voice is singing something to me
An age old song about the home of the brave
In this land here of the free
One time one night in America
Four small boys playing ball in a parking lot
A preacher, a teacher, and the other became a cop
A car skidded into the rain
Making the last little one a saint
One more light goes out in America
A young girl tosses a coin in the wishing well
She hopes for a heaven while for her
There's just this hell
She gave away her life
To become somebody's wife
Another wish unanswered in America
People having so much faith
Die too soon while all the rest come late
We write a song that no one sings
On a cold black stone
Where a lasting peace will finally bring
The sunlight plays upon my windowpane
I wake up to a world that's still the same
My father said to be strong
And that a good man could never do wrong
In a dream I had last night in America
A wise man was telling storie to me
About the places he had been to
And the things that he had seen
A quiet voice is singing something to me
An age old song about the home of the brave
In this land here of the free
One time one night in America
