Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Sunday accused President Barack Obama of essentially breaking his oath office by refusing to faithfully execute U.S. laws.
Article II of the U.S. Constitution requires each president to recite the following oath before taking office: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
During an interview on CNN, host Candy Crowley asked Santorum to respond to an Obama administration policy that would halt the deportations of certain young undocumented immigrants.
You need to hammer the president on this now habitual abuse of power, saying that hes not going to defend the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA], the former candidate explained. You know, Im not even going to go to the Supreme Court and stand up for the law that, you know, Im charged as the chief executive to do. So youre seeing a pattern where the president says, Im going to pick and choose what laws Im going to enforce, what laws Im going to stand up and fight for in court. That is not the job of the president.

(30,885 posts)It was his extremism, the way he became increasingly bold and outspoken (giving people who weren't familiar with him a look at just how completely crazy he is). But underneath it all, I think many people who know of him see him as a "little shit," the guy who made the state of Pennsylvania pay for his kids' home schooling.

I'll tell ya--that creep worries me. He will be back in four years, with campaign trail experience and a bigger, fatter Rolodex (or the computer equivalent of same). I hope we can field a real kick-ass candidate--the 2016 election is going to be a free-for-all, I think.

(10,745 posts)I'd be really worried if somebody like Rand Paul won then. At least Santorum had a fair number of detractors.......Rand? I'm not so sure.....

(135,425 posts)I hope so, anyway. They have a lot of the same vibe as Newt's "Contract On --he said "With," but I'll go with Tony Soprano's turn of phrase--America" bunch.
They also have a very thin but visible varnish of pure, unbridled and especially vitriolic racism that, despite the best efforts of a few spokesmodels to downplay that aspect, just won't go away. It's like trying to paint over raging mold--it keeps popping up. They aren't down with the brown or the black, and that's just not acceptable for a viable national platform, even though some regions will tolerate that kind of shit.
It's why Mittsy has a problem--he's got a few fleas that he just can't shake, because that's what happens when you lie down with dogs!
