Fantasy Politics - a tale of What If . . . .

What if, after the dust settles on election night, we are, all of us on DU and all of us on the side of decency, are cheering while at the same time feeling relief, as we watch Hillary Clinton's victory speech, delivered earlier than any previous such speech.

What if, after watching the down ballot returns, we learn there is a 50-50 Senate, with Tim Kaine being the tie breaker.

What if the night's disappointment is continuing GOPee control of the House.

What if, as HRC prepares to take the oath of office, the tea baggers in the House start to revolt against Ryan. What if Leader Pelosi, in concert with the Democratic Party's House leadership, approaches the embattled Speaker and offers a deal: you allow reasonable legislation to get a vote, you agree to keep regular order, you agree to allow debate, we will support you as Speaker.

What if all this comes to pass and the country finds not only a way to move forward, but a way to heal. What if a closely divided government leads to a slew of legislation being passed.

What if the Senate nukes the Nuclear Option. What if the first order of business, following Merrick Garland, citing deference to the new president, withdraws his candidacy for the Court. What if, instead, Hillary Clinton nominates a 42 year old liberal jurist to the Court. And what if the Senate passes that nominee 50, with the Veep breaking the tie. And what if, seeing the opportunity, Breyer retires and a similar scenario plays out.

And what if RBG . . . . . . picks a successor and offers her own retirement if President Clinton agrees to appoint the jurist selected by The Notorious RBG, who sticks around to clerk for the new Justice.

And a 5-4 Liberal Court will reign for decades.

What if?

Not so far fetched.
