They know better, a lot of these folks who ran, and they didnt say anything. So they dont get credit for, at the very last minute when finally the guy that they nominated and they endorsed and they supported, is caught on tape saying things that no decent person would even think, much less say, much less brag about, much less laugh about or joke about You cant wait until that finally happens and then say, Oh, thats too much, thats enough, and think that somehow youre showing any kind of leadership and deserve to be elected You dont get points for that.

(30,752 posts)and enough when it began to jeopardize THEIR personal gravy train. They may lose their safe offices and perks. It will take them a long time to recoup their losses. A lot of the rich backers will stop giving money to keep them in office. Those people will find new prospects to finance for office.

(1,002 posts)What was interesting today were the students at Liberty University who en masse said, "No, we can not support Trump..." and simultaneously that University's President (?) Jerry Falwell Jr. said that, "Yes, I still can support Trump..."

(13,497 posts)the republican party regulars did NOT want this guy.
That was all the people voting in the primary.
The same people who watch reality television and probably would love a feeding of the lions in the Roman Colisseum.

(82,849 posts)But each and every one of them was too scared, or too busy, or too lazy to lift a finger to oppose him, and since he secured the nomination, they have all fallen in line behind him. Some of them took a little longer than others (Ted Cruz, come on down!), but Trump is 100% their nominee.
While the issue was momentarily in doubt, but Trump appeared to be on his way to the nomination, anyone who meekly voiced a "never Trump" attitude was quickly and forcefully informed that they were bucking the will of Republican voters, and getting cross-wise with the party leadership. You know what a principled Republican would have done? Trick question! Nobody knows, because every Republican knuckled under and by the time of the convention there was nobody left to object to Trump's nomination.
Is that fair? I couldn't say; but it's true.

(2,577 posts)No, he has not supported Trump, but he is a nasty, nasty man. He has spent his time as governor of Ohio attacking public sector workers, giving tax cuts to the very wealthy, undermining public education, defunding Planned Parenthood, and making sure that government in Ohio is NOT transparent.
He is just quietly planning his 2020 run, and M$M is lapping it up, telling me regularly that ol' Johnny Boy represents "the Party of Lincoln." (They missed the time he funded school lunch programs for kids in rural counties, but not in urban ones. Hmm.)

(1,383 posts)Hell, I even gave Cruz a little AFTER his talk at the GrOPer convention.
Everything you list - disgusting. What really hit me was the school lunch program. Republicans are scum.

(2,577 posts)I often hear M$M touting ol' John as a "moderate" and "reasonable." We here in Ohio were so impressed that Johnny didn't lose it on the campaign trail. He is famous for his vicious temper.
I know he is gearing up for 2020, and the Ohio GOP chair is being considered for the national chair. Yuck and double yuck.

(36,853 posts)Trump boldly walks into dressing rooms where 15 year old girls are nude and still gets excuses and support.
Hastert set up a comfortable chair in the boys' shower room for his viewing pleasure and got letters of support from his fellow republicans.

(9,771 posts)Yet, even as blatant as this proof is, the brainwashed RW media victims cannot see it.
Those who are still behind Trump will not be moved by the excellent and true speeches recently given by the president and the first lady. I do hope, however, that some of the inexplicably undecideds will be moved to see the light.

The "regular, bat-s**t crazies and other deplorables" - I can understand.
But seemingly intelligent, reasonable people - totally blows my mind!
WTF are they thinking?
Dark n Stormy Knight
(9,771 posts)has got to be the extremely well-funded, pervasive RW propaganda machine.
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that through this pervasive multi-media campaign, they have brainwashed people to the point of paranoia, where nothing that contradicts the RW message can be believed.
Even those who say they now can't vote for Trump say Hillary is just as bad, so they won't vote for her. And, as with President Obama, much of what people hate her for is highly exaggerated, misrepresented, or, simply not true.

Truly. Ever ask "WHY?" to someone who "hates" Hillary or Obama? Their answers reflect a belief in the misinformation that has been fed via the GOP.

(14,047 posts)Real Republican values are sick. And after a generation of social conservatives whining about declining sexual morality, they now try and use this "Rot" as an excuse for electing a 4th rate Caligula.
