http://www.joemygod.com/2016/10/13/nobody-wants-to-stay-at-trumps-new-dc-hotel/Last weekend bankers and dignitaries from around the world descended on Washington for the annual World BankIMF meetings. But just a few days before the conference, rooms were not only still available at Trump International, they were heavily discounted. On October 2, a deluxe room, with a rack rate of $805, could be had for as low $445 a night on Hotels.com. All other five-star D.C. downtown hotels were sold out. By Wednesday, October 5, weekend stays in the deluxe rooms were marked down to $404 per night on Trump Internationals own website. The more luxurious 500-square-foot executive rooms, with a city view and marble bath, were only $484. By comparison, at the Waldorf-Astoria in Georgetown, the only available rooms were $1,139 per night, according to Hotels.com.
For a five-star hotel in downtown Washington to have vacancies during major IMF meetings is a little like having empty rooms when the Super Bowl is in town. The reason why there were vacancies is the political atmosphere. People dont want to go there for fear that they would be asked, Why are you staying here? says Ada Pena, a travel agent with ABA Travel in Washington, D.C. The explosive tape of Trump boasting of sexually assaulting women will only aggravate that feeling, especially when there are other options, she says. The hotel not only has a prime location and swank interiors, it boasts a branded Ivanka Trump spa, and tourist attractions related the buildings old function as a post office. But none of that seems to be attracting guests.

(36,827 posts)Even everything within the range of the commuter trains is high. You have to get a considerable distance away from the city before hotel rooms start to become reasonably priced.

Reading the local papers, event planners won't book anything at Trump on Pennsylvania Ave.
They may as well put up toxic waste signs. Love it.
Law of unintended consequences, Mr. Trump!

(9,908 posts)Trump running it for the US Govt
Outbid all other hotel chains to re-do said hotel
Chains dropped out of bidding knowing what would happen
Highest prices
Lowest occupancy. And that was B4 the statements!
He grifted the govt and will come away Scott free once more
Atypical for both
Paying too much for nothing
Getting too much for nothing

(34,462 posts)They likely aren't running it for the govt but are paying rent, and his firm is running it for themselves.

(38,321 posts)What a great way to make cosmopolitan international travelers feel welcome!
One of my favorite things about living where I do is hearing languages other than English in schools, shops, and everywhere else in my daily business.
"English Only" people are a paranoid bunch who think people speaking other languages are plotting against them, or laughing at them.
I grew up in a monolingual English place and I'm worse off for it. My wife and kids are bilingual. We have friends who are fluent in multiple languages and I think multilingualism is something we should encourage in our schools.
Efforts to preserve languages that are fading away are very important. Many Native American languages are already lost.
Language significantly influences how we think, and what we know of the rest of the world. Multilingualism is a positive thing. It increases the breadth of human thought.
Hotel staff will learn enough English to do their jobs soon enough. Their children will learn English. Their grandchildren will be fluent English speakers and may even be losing the language of their grandparents.
