Here in my Dallas section of town, there are plenty of yard signs for the local elections, but I haven't seen any yard signs for Hillary or Trump. Same for bumper stickers, last presidential election, saw Romney Stickers everywhere, no Trump stickers this time. I put Obama sticker on my car for last two presidential election, but not this year, afraid I'll get run off the freeway. Not too worried about a yard sign, I live in deep Democratic territory, one family up in Richardson. (a suburb city) had their dog poisoned after they refused to take down Hillary yard signs.

(10,892 posts)I have driven all over my state, and I have only seen one Trump sign in someone's yard. No Hillary signs. Plenty of them on public highway right of ways, though. Everybody will spew their support on the interwebs, but NEVER put up a sign in their yard. He'll no, the neighbors will remember that!

(58,676 posts)8 or 10 of them, but mostly on businesses and open lots. At least one was at a home. Big ones, too. All like 3x5 feet with plywood backing. Very noticeable. That was just this morning. Scary.

I've seen 1 maggot sign in a Spanaway junk lot and 2 car signs. That's it.

(6,261 posts)I see maybe one Clinton sign a week at the very most. A few more yard signs for Trump than that. I've not seen a Clinton yard sign yet.
This is a strange election.

(264 posts)Neighborhood in SoCal there are only Hillary signs. I live in a really diverse suburb of LA and there were a lot of Romney signs 4 yrs ago. I have yet to see a single Cheeto sign.

(111,302 posts)not even for Favorite Son Gary Johnson, which really surprises me.
I can understand no Trump signs, he's as popular here as anthrax. No Hillary signs can be chalked up to fear of vandalism by petty and spiteful Trump chumps. Either Johnson didn't bother printing them or his supporters have been embarrassed out of posting them.
But yeah, medians are starting to sprout signs for local elections.
The only yard signs I've been seeing are "for sale" signs at nearly the 2006 rate, a little scary.

Eight years ago every other house had an Obama sign, and there were a few McCain signs also.

(6,040 posts)Parts of the East side, in the Oakley, Pleasant Ridge, Madisonville and the more central Northside is mostly Clinton yard signs with an occasional tRUMP sign.
On the more conservative West Side it is probably 15:1 in favor of tRUMP signs. It seems like they doubled down in their support since the start of Pussygate. I would estimate there is more tRUMP signs now than there was Reagan signs in 1984, much more.

(698 posts)Midway between DC and Baltimore. No yard signs and precious few bumper stickers (those are slightly more likely to be for Hillary). I sometimes travel up to Northern Maryland/extreme southern Pennsylvania. A few Trump yard signs there, and last week I saw one for Clinton. Again, hardly any bumper stickers.

(2,678 posts)I've seen no, as in zero, zilch, nada lawn signs for either candidate. In 2012 there were many Romney signs, some Obama signs. I did see one "H" bumper sticker. Very strange election season! 🤔😳

(9,894 posts)PA, one of the Philadelphia suburb counties that put the swing in this swing state. In my area I see no Hillary signs or bumperstickers and a sprinkling of Trump signs, including a gigantic one that went up this weekend on my way to work. Grrrr. I would put up a Hillary sign, but I'm a public employee and we aren't supposed to publically endorse candidates. Most of the bumper stickers I see are anti-Hillary, with some being rather offensive. Most people I know of who have had Hillary stuff up have had it vandalized, stolen, or had obscenties screamed at their houses. Such is the pathetic gynophobia of the Trump voter.

(3,370 posts)In the past few months, I have only seen Trump signs here and there with one or two Hillary signs. A bunch more went up in the last 2 weeks. However, there has been a small explosion of Hillary signs in the past week, which has been a relief.

(13,562 posts)I wasn't going to put up a sign this time, but the neighbor across the street put up a Trump sign his next door neighbor put up a Clinton which prompted my wife to tell me to go out and get a Clinton one for us. So now there are 3 Clinton/Kaine on our block and 1 Trump/Pence.
I'm not putting any bumper stickers on cars, but have seen several Clinton ones around here. This is a fairly blue part of a blue county but with cars you don't know when you'll run into one of the crazy despicables.

(2,769 posts)Except for the hundreds of signs opposing the electric company from clear-cutting an 80 foot wide swath straight through the town for huge hi-voltage lines.
One house in the next town has (had?) a Trump sign in their front yard that was as big as a billboard -- really!

(4,227 posts)Trump signs, billboards and bumper stickers EVERYWHERE. We were warned not to put Hillary signs in our yard but some Trumphumper came on to our property and put Trump signs all around our home. Bastards. SW PA is a horrible place to live....full of hillbillies in their camo and loving their guns. We are planning our exit stragety...

(46,179 posts)I've had my entire life.
What is the purpose of stickers, yard signs, etc.? Do their presence or absence actually affect votes and election outcomes, or are they more a social expression of belonging to or supporting a particular clan/party, or simple solidarity, or just simply an exercise of free speech rights, or?
I have never made a decision about whom to vote for based on signs and stickers, although SOME have reinforced my decision NOT to vote for a candidate. I've never used a yard sign or sticker myself.
I HAVE looked around to see what candidates seem to be popular in my community, at least among those who post signs and stickers. During the primaries, I saw some Bernie stickers; Carson seemed to be the most popular Republican here.
Since the launching of the GE, I've seen almost nothing. A handful of Trump signs and stickers; none for Clinton. The battle of the signs has been all about state-wide and local campaigns. Even on tv, I've seen maybe 3 Clinton ads, no Trump ads, and an avalanche of ads for state and local candidates and measures.
When locals mention the election, I don't hear anyone advocating for one or the other presidential candidates; their faces tighten, they look grim, and they say, "I can't wait for it to be over."

(67,112 posts)that might influence their vote, if they vote at all. I do all of my research on the Internet, especially for judges, etc. Some of them are so ultra-right-wing. People really need to focus on judges, etc. It's generally a complicated affair to see what they are about, but the information is out there, for the most part, if one takes the time.

(46,179 posts)At least I do when there is a choice.
Most of the time, they are running unopposed.
When there's a choice to make, there's no campaign, no records to look at, just a statement in the pamphlet, vaguely worded saying very little, if anything at all.

(12,663 posts)...in the yard at a space that's in a back corner of the complex - probably so there's no complaints, because all the neighbors in that immediate area comprise of two elderly widows (one with a care-taker) and four families that are definitely not in Trump's constituency.
Granted, there's three more vehicles with RWNJ anti-liberal/anti-Obama bumper stickers in the complex, but two of those belong to the same person.
There's also one large "Hillary for Prison" 8 1/2 x 11 sticker on someone's blue ATV in view over the weekends that actually looks like a pro-Clinton sticker at first glance - because it's copied from an official Clinton campaign sticker and the "for Prison" is in a text-art block lettered much smaller in white over the R/W/B flag pennant design under her name (real great design work, guys...).
I've counted more Johnson stickers than Trump stickers. In fact, Carson stickers that are still on vehicles than there are Trump stickers.
