Being 72+ there has been a lot of elections and water under the bridge. I long for the Kennedy years when one could speak in full paragraphs and people understood. I long for a time when we had a Congress that functioned. Trump humpers cannot even speak or understand beyond one vowel. How we have come this far and become so base is really hard to understand.
The decades of hate radio and race baiting has really taken its toll on the country. Our divorce from reality and facts is stunning. The kind of coded incitement to act violently is unprecedented.
I see almost no bumper stickers and perhaps a few Trump signs. Virtually no Hillary signs or stickers at all where I am. And I wonder about putting any kind of Hillary sticker on my car at this point.
I believe I feel the pressure building and the mood of the country darkening but I hope it is just an illusion on my part. The things coming out of Trump right now and demeanor of his rallies a really unsettling.
I am glad I am voting by mail where I live. .

I can vote on Election Day because the district is Republican...it is beautiful easy.
I'm 58. I know what you are talking about. I've seen almost as much as you.

(2,716 posts)I don't think the election will be close. At this point Trump is speaking only to his base keeping the knuckle draggers in the fold long enough to somehow validate his misguided run. They will be furious that America rejected the poser that tapped into their delusional rage. They are dangerous and there should be plans in place to deal with the unpredictable insanity that may unfold. The aftermath of this election may be one of Obama's greatest challenges. This is like nothing I've seen in my 72 years either.

And I"m happy to say why I love her if anyone asks.

(13,468 posts)I was born and raised in Kentucky, lived here all my life, and never another political bumper sticker on my car! When two ladies were run off the road right here in Lexington for having an Obama sticker in 2008, it started me thinking. Then I got into dog agility with our Border Collie mix, and found some wonderful agility trials down in Tenn. so I started going even farther south frequently, with a cherished furry family member with me, now two beloved dogs, whose lives I won't risk.
Never before President Obama was elected, and so many white people went crazy, did I think twice about putting a bumper sticker on my car, things are so different now. I can hide from evil people though, minority people cannot, the racism in this country is beyond wretched. I worry so much about the crazies hurting people, I still think about the AA college student getting man-handled at that Trump rally in Louisville. One of the cruel men involved could have granddaughters her age, I wonder if he does, but doesn't give a dam what he does to someone else's child.
Sorry for the stream of consciousness, I was once proud to be a Kentuckian if I recall.
