If the GOP were smart, they would divorce themselves from the Trump part of Deplorables.

The GOP is going nowhere in the 21st century if they have these despicables as part of the republican party. Ryan should denounce his endorsement of Trump as should the rest. It would be painful for the GOP, but they might migrate into something more useful and enlightened.

solutions that often more or less pleased a lot of people. My father was a strong well known democratic politician long ago in my youth and many of his friends were republicans. Those days are long long long gone. I think some healthy opposition is good, but the new GOP is insane.

Plenty of these folks are crossover Democrats who voted for Reagan. They've courted the evangelicals by being anti-choice and anti-non-Christian religions. They've courted the racists by cutting funds for things like SNAP (even though more whites get food stamps than people of color) and other "entitlements".

I think they will split off and make another party.

They have to stay with him at least in public. Yes a public-private difference. Openly disdaining himruns the risk of his mob not voting at all or boycotting down ticket. Stay with him and be embarrassed but keep the House (that's a long shot for us) and the Senate OR bail on him and lose everything. At this point the GOP main goal is to keep the Senate so they can block Supreme Court nominees.

They have a proven track record of stupidity.

They have decades of failed economic policies.

They have decades of failed military actions.

They have become the anti-intellectual party.

They are very proud of this because it fits in with their religious views.

They favor the Bible over the Constitution.

"If the GOP were smart,............this country would be light

years ahead of where we currently are.

They are the party of ignorance, vengeance, misinformation, and

all things that hold this country back from progress.

If the GOP wants to survive, they need to collectively denounce Trump NOW, and quit pandering to the wingnuts in their base.

I'll bet you anything that Paul Ryan, McCain... etc., will be secretly voting for Hillary.

head. I would not have that patience. I would tell him to fuck off, and then let the chips fall as they may. I think millions would respect them rather than party over country. Now, I know how Hitler rose to power when those that knew better supported him, the typical know-nothings joined in, and others thought it was just a fad. I just can't believe an ass like Trump is so close to the WH. I can't believe millions in this country support this Trump creature!

McCain and Ann Kirkpatrick were tied up until McCain unendorsed Trump. Now he's 16 points ahead of her according to the RealClear Polls. I'm hoping it's just a temporary bump, but unendorsing Trump so far hasn't hurt McCain any. In fact, it put him in the lead.

Steve Schimdt: "This candidacy. The magnitude of its disgrace to the country is almost impossible, I think, to articulate. But it has exposed the intellectual rot in the Republican Party. It has exposed at a massive level the hypocrisy, the modern day money changers in the temple like Jerry Falwell Jr. And, so this party to go forward, and to represent a conservative vision for America, has great soul searching to do."

George Will: "Trump should stay atop the ticket, for four reasons. First, he will give the nation the pleasure of seeing him join the one cohort, of the many cohorts he disdains, that he most despises — “losers.” Second, by continuing to campaign in the spirit of St. Louis, he can remind the nation of the useful axiom that there is no such thing as rock bottom. Third, by persevering through Nov. 8 he can simplify the GOP’s quadrennial exercise of writing its post-campaign autopsy, which this year can be published Nov. 9 in one sentence: “Perhaps it is imprudent to nominate a venomous charlatan.” Fourth, Trump is the GOP’s chemotherapy, a nauseating but, if carried through to completion, perhaps a curative experience."

Michael Steele said that the GOP needed to nominate Trump to confront what they have become.

I hope that the GOP does wind up evolving into something that we can have reasonable disagreements and discussions with. We shall see.

The current GOP with Trump currently at the apex is like trying to have intelligent discussions with a party of lunatics. The sane portion of the GOP PTB have clearly, of course, lost control. Same here, "I hope that the GOP does wind up evolving into something that we can have reasonable disagreements and discussions with. We shall see."

I want to roast marshmallows over that fire.

I recommend the Democrats keep coalition building and keep the 15-18% of "sensible" republicans that jumped ship this year.

If they could let go of abortion and the "the gays", then they might be able to begin rebuilding. I am not holding my breath for this one. We will just have to wait out the old timers and their deaths (natural causes of course). Hell, as soon as Hillary wins this election just think of the increase in hypertension, heart attacks, stroke and diabetes.

I can't see them doing that, so they are probably on the path to extinction.
