MSNBC must really want to lose viewers. She is as fake as they come. The whole librarian look, the laugh, the comment (both with and without merit) delivery . . . uh, I don't know. Ratigan got on my nerves at times, but I will be busy in that time slot now for sure. She will be taking Martin's spot and Martin will be moving into Dylan's. There is always housework.

(4,237 posts)I said it in the other thread on this clown: conservatives already have a network for them. CNN certainly hasn't learned anything about this and has ratings to show for their efforts to emulate Fox. MSNBC wants to try and bring in one of the two viewers who give half-a-shit about this woman and what she has to spew? Whatever. If she hangs on, it'll be because of stunts like this:

(10,893 posts)why are there always a mother load of YouTube clips from Fox News of people's legs? Are all their viewers perverts or something?

(28,347 posts)I hate sexism too, but I don't see what you're seeing.
What I do think, though, is Ms. Cupp uses her sexuality to her advantage. When you're lying or tweaking the facts I guess a gimmick is good to have to keep some viewers (men) from changing the channel.
I agree with the OP, I'll be doing other things at 3pm, just like I do at 5 & 7.

If anybody is pornifying Ms. Cupp, it is Ms. Cupp.
Which does not justify disgusting behavior towards her....but one can hardly be surprised when she is taken less seriously than other journalists when she comports herself so.

FYI--there's plenty of other videos of her engaging in said behavior. She does not look forced, or otherwise coerced.
Sometimes women engage in sexist behavior because they think it is advantageous to do so.

(31,706 posts)The show is a rotation of MSNBC "contributors"...I'll bet we see Ron Christy, Mikey Steele and other rushpublican talking heads show on the show as well...but looks like they'll be teamed with a liberal/moderate stenographer. I expect we'll see folks like Karen Finney, Ezra Klein and others who will (or should) keep the wingnuts and their talking points in check.
I like the move of Martin Bashir to right before Tweetyball...I wasn't a big Ratigan fan and used to turn on something else during that hour.

(285 posts)Isn't that the old Crossfire approach? I think MSNBC tried it a few years ago with Tucker Carlson as the conservative voice. It didn't last long, as I recall.

(31,706 posts)Notice the word is plural...so I suspect it will be a roundtable hour of psychobabble...cable teevee's stock in trade. Looks more like a move to fill the hour and see what evolves...they're paying these people so they might as well get their money's worth.
I sure do remember Crossfire and the show lasted for over 20 years. But then rushpublicans weren't anywhere near as obnoxious and most of those years were before faux and 24/7 right wing talking points all over the teevee and radio. In the end Novak (who ended up owning a piece of the show) and Bowtie boy Carlson destroyed it by making it a platform for neo-cons...as Jon Stewart pointed out, the show had become a parody of itself.

(21,925 posts)and her delivery is not as obnoxious as most right wingers. But her ideas suck and her debate skills aren't very effective. If I want to look at beautiful women there are plenty of other places to do it. I don't like the notion that a network thinks they can lure me as a viewer just because of a pretty face, if that's the idea behind this move. Maybe that's the Faux model but I don't want that out of MSNBC. I want substance and, so far, having seen her weak performances on Alex Wagner's show, Bill Maher's, and several others, I don't see very much of that.

(28,784 posts)I've done without cable tv for a while - unless you're a huge sports fan, it's no big loss, to tell you the truth.
but I don't watch a lot of tv shows. the ones I want to watch are, generally, available the next day and it costs much less to pay for what I want to watch rather than what a cable company wants to put into a bundle.
HBO may soon split from cable co. packages b/c the demographic for many of their shows is giving up cable for internet tv. I hope they do - but if they don't, I'll just watch shows when they're released on DVD.

(2,104 posts)I personally hate when she is on more than Michael Steele as I find she makes more snide comments while grinning like an idiot about how clever she is with whatever RW talking point she is pushing. I also see fewer pundits on with her putting her crap down or correcting her, I feel they are letting her off easier than say Michael Steele would be if he had said the same thing.
I also on a more personal level find her disingenuous based on her claims she is an 'atheist' who 'aspires to be a person of faith'. Basically when I first saw her appear on my TV she claimed to be an atheist and would still take up the republican religion side on issues then toss in 'But I'm an atheist' as if to make her point MORE valid.
I truly hope MSNBC doesn't go further down the road with more shows that try to sustain the 'both sides do it' or some semblance of 'fair and balanced' by bringing in more republican/conservatives to give their spin on things. If people wanted that crap they'd be watching CNN.
MSNBC has one show where the republican viewpoint gets to be droned on to us and it happens in the morning with Joe it REALLY REALLY doesn't need another one. Ratigan wasn't perfect and often failed to correct many 'both sides do it' BS or even propagated it but I felt he was more neutral MOST of the time. When he was spouting that crap there was USUALLY some call for it to be true like money in politics although the truth would be to point out how more pervasive it is on the republican side yet he didn't say so.

Here's what I posted:
Good Heavens, WHY? Someone with S.E. Cupp's slant has NO business being a cohost on MSNBC! What are you people thinking??? The fact that we already have to suffer the likes of Scarborough and Chuck Todd is bad enough. Cupp is agonizingly miscast. It's not just her wrong-headed politics. Her smug superiority complex makes her utterly unwatchable.
Why couldn't Martin Bashir get two hours? Intelligence, sophistication, gloriously literate, a touch of humility, elegance, and we know he's on our side - because he has brains and a conscience and both of those elements tend to lead toward progressive thinking. I don't come to MSNBC to find out what conservatives are thinking. I come to MSNBC to GET AWAY from (and see debunked) what conservatives are thinking. I don't even want 'em around as sacrificial goats or punching bags, for that matter. I'm sure there's plenty of room for Cupp's shtick at Fox "News".
Please. Please understand. I don't come to MSNBC for "balance," at least not the kind of "fair and balanced (to one side)" perversion of the word "balance" now in common usage. I come to MSNBC to get the liberal point of view. The Democratic point of view. MY point of view. If I wanted "Devil's Advocacy," I'd go where the Devil is. I come to MSNBC to see coverage and commentary by intelligent, prominent, well-informed, well-connected, and circumspect people who share MY views. I will be doing something else during this hour. Too bad. I kinda like Krystal Ball.
