Apparently my neighbor feels that African Americans engaged in protest against being shot by cops is just like a group that has engaged in systematic violence and murder for over 150 years.

(82,849 posts)When BLM starts lynching white people, you'll accept its equivalency with the Klan. When those lynchings aren't even investigated, let alone prosecuted, by the local authorities, then the equivalency argument might gain some traction. When BLM burns crosses on people's lawns, they'll match the Klan for odious behavior. When those burned crosses don't draw any attention from the sheriff, then BLM has achieved Klan status.
You could go on and on, but really, the point is that your neighbor doesn't want to know anything.

(9,760 posts)Just what I was thinking. Good heavens, how is that not obvious to anyone who knows anything about both groups?

(11,866 posts)BLM is out to end the hate and educate, unlike like KKK who spread the hate to intimidate,
a protest, not a rope fest,
a righteous cross and not a burning one.
Dedicated to keeping black men, women and children alive and not killing them... just to name a few.

Of course, conservatives hate the FBI and other law enforcement when it suits them, and had no issue with armed hoodlums occupying a wildlife refuge.

(63,212 posts)Another major difference is that the KKK has at its foundation a tradition of murder and torture of black people, while BLM hopes to end the torture and murder of black people.
The differences abound.

(22,165 posts)Since you have to live in proximity to them responding: You are a jack ass, is probably out
you could point out one group is fighting for their human/ civil rights (BLM) and the other group is fighting to try to take away another group's civil/ human rights (KKK) ... but, I doubt you will make any headway with someone that would make that connection in the first place.

When life gives you lemons, throw them at someone.

(7,745 posts)"Engaged in protest"
You're using inaccurate language. In the last year we've seen BLM race riots, targeted racial violence, violence against drivers, violence against the police....
Replace "engaged in protest" with an equally accurate statement like "burned their neighbors businesses" or "attacked innocent people" and you'll understand why people think differently from you.

(10,168 posts)Or raped, or shot or sicked attack dogs on? Or burned their houses down, or blocked the doors to their schools? What a stupid comparison this is. The KKK is not JUST a hate group, it has a long, well documented history of murdering innocent people.
