What does it mean to be a Democrat?

During the primary and the period preceding it, some claimed that the party no longer stood for anything and that there was little difference between the two parties. I disagree, and I think this ad articulates well what it means to be Democrat.

I have never been prouder to be a Democrat.

With the GOP being the Ferengi and Russia being the Klingons. We the FoP are the only group that believes the 'needs of the many outweigh the needs of the individual'.

To be a Democrat is to support the Democratic party. That party currently advocates a particular ideology, but that has changed in the past and will change in the future; the Democrats will be the people loyal to the party, regardless of how the ideology changes.

I'm a liberal; I'm also* a Democrat. If the party changes, I will remain a liberal, but cease to be a Democrat, while the people subscribing to whatever ideology it takes up will be Democrats but not liberals.

*This is a lie for rhetorical effect - I'm British. But if I were American, I'd be a Democrat.

I registered as a Democrat because the party direction at that time aligned with my sentiments. What mattered most was equality, no matter the race, gender, or economic standing. Those very reasons are why I am still proudly a Democrat.
