I've read and heard from people who believe Donald Trump's idiotic philosophies that they got their information on radio talk shows.
My question is this: Why don't liberals have radio talk shows? I took a trip across four states lately. Trying to find anything on my car radio that didn't make me want to set my hair on fire, all I got was lunatic right-wing talk shows.
This is where Trump people get most of their hysteria. Why do we let this go on without an alternative?
Please reply to this post, because I've been wondering about this for a long time.

(21,195 posts)We used to have a progressive station in SF. Big ratings and #1 in time slots, then boom all gone in 2009 one day replaced by right wing talk and ratings went to zero.

(26,655 posts)Subscribe to Sirius.. it's worth the money, in my opinion. I listen to Stephanie Miller in the morning, John Fuglesang in the afternoon, and there's plenty in between.
Also, MSNBC is on the air, so it's AM Joy on Saturday mornings, and NPR after that.

(14,732 posts)to counteract the poison spewed by RW hate-jockeys have not been successful. The latest was Air America, which, while it failed economically did give us Rachel Maddow. Not enough $$$ to support liberal talk radio.

(100,104 posts)I listened to Air America very extensively when it was on. And talk radio - no matter what kind of talk radio it is - generally makes me want to break my radio. But I did make an exception for Air America back when it was on.

(14,732 posts)is 1) fear (they're coming for yer guns, the furriners are taking your jobs, ISIS is going to rape your wife and behead you) and 2) anger (It's all __________fault. Deport/bomb the shit out of/lock them up. And advertisers who convince morons to buy gold or silver and invest $200+ dollars in 'survival food kits' count their increased revenues all the way to the bank.
No one said it better than the great H.L. Mencken: "Nobody ever went broke overestimating the stupidity of the American public". Unfortunately.

(100,104 posts)Every single mass shooting in America that's happened since Sandy Hook, Alex Jones makes up some wild, off the rails conspiracy about how said mass shooting is a false flag operation designed by Hillary Clinton and the left in an effort to incarcerate everybody and take people's guns away. It happens every time! Then he goes and hawks expensive water filters and "miracle" cures because the government "puts stuff in the water supply". Right. Don't trust anyone who sells a miracle cure.

(9,353 posts)They tried here in New York. Air America was on the air for several years. It was what raised my knowledge and participation in the political process. It was where Rachel Maddow got started.
There was not enough money to keep it afloat. Most left oriented stations across the country face the same problem.
It's a shame.
MSNBC was supposed to be the counter to Fox. Did not work out that way.

(62,448 posts)We own little media and when we do there is little advertising.
AFAIK, WCPT in Chicago and KTNF in the Twin Cities are about the only 2 liberal (not Pacifica) radio stations left. They carry Stephanie, Thom and a variety of local talent.
There is always Sirius radio.

Simple, really. Liberal talk tends to be boring and useful. It doesn't rile people up.

(65,191 posts)So, there isn't one huge block of listeners that would support an entire network. The added diversity of opinion on the liberal side inhibits such a counter measure.

(279 posts)Liberals don't want to be spoon fed one sided talking points 24/7. Liberals want the facts with honest analysis, which is why we utilize a wide variety of credible national and international news sources. Hell even MSNBC gets crap ratings because normal people from center to far left don't want one sided propaganda.
Right wing radio is there to give right wingers a bubble, to allow them to willfully ignore what they don't want to hear. It's no coincidence that it flourishes on AM radio, right next to, or in some cases on the same stations as the batshit religious crap.

They rebranded themselves as iHeartCommunications, so now they're pure and wholesome, not frothing cauldrons of Rightwing propaganda.
Sure!

(1,735 posts)on WCPT FM from Chicago. Can be played on any device including on ROKU on Free Speech TV. Isn't as expensive as satellite radio. All good progressive shows.
