7. I'm reminded of a photo essay book featuring the cherished possessions of

poor folks in third world countries. There was a lot of emphasis on food items and cooking gear, photos of extended families happily preparing and enjoying a meal together. Women displayed the glittering wealth of their jewelry. The families were photographed with belongings, like stacks of bedding, clothing, and some pieces of handmade furniture. Prized livestock were often decked out in crowns and necklaces of braided leaves or grass, and included in the family photos.

Then I have to look at this scowling, gun loving American family that looks like the murderous cast members from the latest Purge movie, or the WASPish believers in some dystopian militia death cult about to kill off their non-white neighbors.
