I was already in a precarious position, unemployed for 7 months. Employers don't want to hire old people. I am applying for early retirement, it is all I have left, now it may be gone. I have just over 10 months to go for Medicare, now?

A lot is at stake here. People have been physically assaulted during the campaign and since the election -- because of the political atmosphere and words of one candidate.

Also, although I know I don't need to give myself a heart attack over this, that I need to find a way to get through it for my own sake, no, I am not accepting at the level of "oh, well" -- I agree wholeheartedly with sheshe2.

* * * * * * *
The "oh well" reminds me of complacency that Progressives/Liberals/Democrats -- whatever "label" I am supposed to use -- so kindly blend right into. It reminds me of a post I read on a different forum. That post was part of a thread questioning whether the election was affected by voter suppression or even some form of vote tampering (i.e., "vote" hacking or other tampering that would change the vote counts per candidate). The person posting stated that she really didn't want to know because we had so much unrest already, that we should just continue with what we have.

Well, that's dangerous. Here's the deal. For the sake of argument ('cause I know this won't really happen), even if ...

even if we had a way of examining the election and how much voter suppression and vote tampering occurred, and ...

even if we learned that trump did not really win, and ...

whether or not we changed the "declared" outcome (and I have no idea whether or how that would even work) of trump becoming president ...

We STILL NEED to KNOW! We need to know so we can prevent this in the future! We KNOW voter suppression happened on a large scale this year in AA and Hispanic and Latino areas. We know it has happened in the past. We KNOW that gerrymandering has helped the repubs take the House. We KNOW this.

So people, we have GOT to stop accepting and "getting through" when we don't HAVE to. If anyone knows of efforts to address this, please let me know. (I've heard Obama's post-Presidency "mission" may have to do with Gerry-mandering or other voter suppression. God, I hope so.)

* * * * * * *
And to bring this full circle: Sheshe2 is correct about the present and direct dangers to people of color and LGBTQ and women and even simply political opponents of trump. This is not something that some people will be able to "get through". This "pres-elect" is dangerous. His wildest, most wound-up followers are dangerous.

* * * * * * *
Thank you. I love you all. I hope this didn't sound too preachy. I don't know what I would have done without DU and some of my progressive friends here in my very red state/county/everything to help me keep my sanity. Take care.

Wow, I am sure you were one of the 750+ that we unblocked from HRC. We did it in a few hours. No questions asked. We decided to sweep all. I never will concerning this election. I will NEVER trust any polls, statements, positive edicts coming from the government again. Put it on young people, put it on AA, many, many latinos, asians, all so called disaffected white people, the stealth white voter of significant means( usually white with others in the mix). Maybe millenials were down or many cynically voted for the trumpfuhrer. AA voted in large numbers. Period. Damn we get shot, bashed, hung and bashed again from blame seekers. AmeriKKKans voted in numbers the polls missed or ignored and a lot of stealth voters who had their heads up their a****, ooops sorry, in the sand listening to the MSM just voted. No conscience, no research, no giving a damn about the content of trumpfuhrers message, just followed the lynch mob. NO. Bullshit on your response to OP!!!!!!!!!!!

you blamed AA, circumspectly, for our loss in this election. Every millenial I talked to had an opinion about candidates. I don't know how they voted. Every AA I spoke with pre--was, post--did vote and I talked face to face with a lot of people. You offend, greatly. Take your charts to the usual suspects, they'll eat it up.

For that matter, AA voting rates have been going up, especially in 2008 and 2012.

But as the charts I posted clearly show, only 20% of Hispanics voted in the last midterms and 41% in 2012.

17% of 18-29 YOs voted in the midterms and 40% in 2012.

The Hispanic population is climbing, we have to find ways to GOTV in this population and young people, pretending these structural problems don't exist is accepting failure.

Young black men. People with severe personality disorders. People who are not in the US legally, and perhaps some who are here legally. Those who need help with drug and alcohol addiction. Veterans with health or mental problems. Women who need abortions. Workers who count on the government for a safe workplace. People who live near sources of air and water pollution. The citizens of whatever small, defenseless nation we decide to invade or bomb. I'm sure the list will grow as we get deeper into this.
