It's not too surprising, though. Mostly white men procured land long ago, and the legal paperwork declaring them the owners of it when others didn't have that opportunity, and it often got passed from one generation to the next... especially in rural areas.

Most of the wealth in this country is contract-based. It still happens in business when ingenious employees often don't have "ownership" of what they created.

Someone like Bill Gates, whose father was a lawyer, mostly became filthy rich because he bought DOS from someone else (with paperwork declaring Gates now owned it) and later securing a sweet contract from IBM when they decided to manufacture PC's.
