136. That's a very good question.
The pro-Clinton MSM has turned Donald Trump into something like an archetype of evil. Archetypes do not operate within rational boundaries; they enter the realm of the supernatural, superstition, taboo. Saying nice things about Trump is taboo. It is unthinkable, it is over the top, it must never, ever be attempted.
There is something elemental and savage to all this; I am reminded variously of The Bacchae and Blondies Rip Her to Shreds.
The Clintons, in their power madness, have created around them a highly charged atmosphere in which it feels like almost anything could happen. The whole fucking nation has taken to the streets in a frenzy of Trump fear and Trump hatred. College students have reverted to infantilism, needing Teddy Bears and stories to reassure them.
No wonder Trumps children looked frightened at the debates. No wonder he wants them near him as he transitions to the presidency. He too feels a need for normalcy, for security.
I wish someone could undo the spell and return us to day-in day-out boredom.
I also wish we could sue the MSM for irresponsibility in generating mass hysteria.
And wouldnt it be nice if the Clintons would just go pleasantly away?
If you care about democracy, the environment and working people, please stop the Clintons.

Trump is a racist, an anti-semite, a nativist, a sexist, a misogynist , a xenophobe, and a serial groper. There is nothing remotely empathetic, humane or progressive about him.

(41,989 posts)And here he sought to give the impression he was a high minded idealist, looking down with pity and disdain on those of us in the common political muck---but generously offering the true wisdom only to be found by listening and agreeing with every word he could fit into a post. And he turns out he's a Trump defender with the shattered liberal cred of Dubya's keyboard.

(54,403 posts)I think it must be a requirement on that board, from my couple of brief peeks, that every post (and at the very least every thread) must contain hate material about the Clintons. Now the once-proud self-proclaimed defenders of the downtrodden are singing the praises of the very candidate who couldn't care less about them--to the extent that he knows they are there to begin with.
Their mentality seems to be that as long as his name isn't Clinton, it doesn't matter to them one bit that "there is nothing remotely empathetic, humane or progressive about him."
When I took my brief looks, it seemed like a board inhabited by a group of very angry and exceedingly unhappy people. This post doesn't exactly serve to alter that impression.

(54,403 posts)None of the three of them would have built upon Obama's vision, and been able to get programs and legislation started from day one. There was one candidate who not only could have done that, but also had a good chance to win the election, something the other three did not.. That candidate was also empathetic, progressive, humane AND democratic. She also happened to get over a million more votes than Trump did. Maybe WAY more, we don't know the full story of possible manipulations yet.

From Skinner's welcome back post:
"Which brings me to my final point. I said previously that I regret letting Democratic Underground become a haven over the last eight years for people who were contemptuous of President Obama and their fellow DU members. With the election behind us, my opinion has not changed. I spent much of the last eight years deeply disappointed by some of the things that people posted here, and compared to that ugliness I thoroughly enjoyed the period of relative unity and respect that we experienced during this years general election season. Going forward, Democratic Underground is going to continue to be a place for friendly, liberal people who support Democrats. If that describes you, welcome home."

(18,636 posts)It was easily predictable in the run up to the election, as the only requisite was an anti-Hillary post. Many posts there were people declaring they would cast a vote for Donald Trump and imploring others to follow suit - only to take down Clinton of course. LOL
Now it's time to clean house but Manny may discover that the dirt and cobwebs were all that was holding the site together in these months past. As the Clintons fall into quiet post-election repose there will be little common ground for active discussion.

Unfortunately the deplorables will never own up to this. They'll not blame the horrors to come on the faces they saw in the mirrors whilst they were stumbling around vaguely wondering about the presence or absence of urinals in the restrooms they were puking in.
Republicans have made voter suppression and gerrymandering a high art. That will be the end of them. They rubbed the lamp of the jackass genie and they got what they wished for.
But nope, the reality shows and TV "news" are not reality.
On the world stage Trump is already a loser.

(30,058 posts)has spoke of President Obama with disdain. Trump has spoken of so many with disdain, he should not expect any respect in which he has not given. McConnell said he wanted to do everything to make Obama as a one term president, they failed, Trump will provide lots of reasons to be investigated, lots of bad talking points, we will not give Trump a pass just because the Republicans have.

Ti Everyone!
Things change, and JPRs a thing. So JPR changes.
Things were utterly bizarro before last weeks election, and there were no non-bizarro alternatives, so JPRs Admins just sat and watched in a state of shock.
Now that the elections over, we think that the battle lines are clear: JPR is a site for Progressives, Trump aint a Progressive, so Trump is on the other side of the battle lines from us. Henceforth, posts that praise Trump in a general way will likely go into the void. But its OK to praise something specific thats connected to Trump, like his putative student loan repayment plan.
All three Admins have had enough of the nuttiness thats been going on here: Trumps not a bad guy, really, world Zionist conspiracies and so forth. Matariki, being by far the most sane of us, is taking a hiatus. Could be forever, could be shorter than that: we certainly hope its the latter, because shes awesome, and because SHE BUILT THIS SITE.
