In new reality, Missouri Dems bank on revived blue-collar focus and buyers' remorse'

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/in-new-reality-missouri-dems-bank-on-revived-blue-collar/article_c02e25ef-0b26-5567-8a69-d0e1da6201be.html

"“An issue like right-to-work can unite people” in the labor movement who are against it, said Robertson. “But implementing right-to-work can certainly weaken the labor unions, too,” hitting Democrats in a key area of their support.

In addition to the urgency of winning back those working-class white voters, Missouri Democrats have a special challenge in that they operate in a state where the national Democrats’ social-issue agenda simply won’t fly.

“Clearly [Missouri] Democrats are going to have to take pretty moderate positions and be open to coalitions with people who have strong opinions on gun rights and abortion” that don’t match the national Democrat Party’s platform, Robertson said.

“They need to focus on economic issues. All of those issues that were brought to the floor by Trump are things that Democrats can address ... but they sort of let that go.”"

Identity politics and the "fuck those rednecks, I will never sympathise with the racist bastards" wing runs smack into the economics and class solidarity wing. Courting many lower class whites may indeed mean attracting million of people with abhorrent racial, cultural, and moralistic views.

I don't have any answers, other than just let racial demographics take their natural course AND, ffs, get the DNC to work much harder with the state parties and start to pull some of the state legislatures back so we can redistrict to our advantage.

If we go full blown "fuck white poor people" we also drive off moderates too.

voting for Trump.

minorities aren't the ones nominating and voting for people who attack whites.

they are the ones who nominate and vote for bigots like trump.

they feel closer to wealthy white people from big wealthy liberal cities than they do to poor minorities in poor areas.

I think a common ground between the 2 MUST be reached if we are to have any chance

8. I didnt say feel empathy for out and out racists

but some are making blanket statements covering ANYONE who voted for Trump.

If that is truly what a persons says, ie, ALL trump voters were racists, and "fuck em" then there is NO point in trying to carve out some political platform that will appeal to any white voters of Trump. I am just taking it to its logical conclusion.

I think we absolutely need to appeal to the NON RACIST whites who voted for Trump. Some would argue that they (non racist voters of Trump) do not exist, that the very act of voting for them makes them irredeemable.

We all need to work together but how? All Democrats need to understand that we have no chance of electing overly progressive candidates in Missouri...and having someone who gives us the majority and who votes with us most of the time is needed if we want to stop the GOP. That being said, the racist will remain in the GOP and they should. That is the one group we don't want.
