There will be a few free lance editorials, but now over to Gina Jones and the weather.

Will my kids need to register? My ex-husband is Muslim. My kids were raised largely as agnostics but were taught about their mother's (me) and their father's families of origin .... Catholic and Muslim respectively.

Even though being Muslim is like being Catholic, or Episcopalian, or Hindu ... (simply a religious preference) ... my children feel no connection to Islam (or any religion), but they are "brown" and have ancestors from the Indian sub-continent ... will they need to register?

What about my first (and only) grandchild? (born November 4, 2016 and the heart of my heart) His mother has a Muslim father and (gasp) his father is the son of immigrants from Latin America ... surely there must be a separate category for him? He combines two groups villified by tRump and despised by the white supremacists given rise by tRump.

This has alternately enraged and terrified me

However, if it's not possible to get on the official registry, maybe identifying as Muslim anytime we fill out any paperwork that provides an opportunity to offer that information would weaken it?

But, they are trying to use Japanese internment as a precedent. If they get away with it it may take awhile to dismantle.

If you think they would be eager to set a precedent for discrimination based on religion, I think that would be surprising.

Catholics were banned from office in some state constitutions. Jews face significant bigotry even today.

They 'might' be able to pass a law requiring foreign immigrants or visitors to register, but what good would that do? Terrorists would lie and say they were Christians. If they are willing to die for their religion, I'm sure they'd be willing to lie for it.
