Fox News fans freak out over popes abortion announcement: Who does this assh*le think he is?

Pope Francis has granted all priests the authority to forgive women who have had an abortion — and Fox News fans are furious.

The conservative news network tweeted out a report Monday morning that the pope had extended that power to priests, and not just bishops to forgive Catholics who had committed the “grave sin” of abortion.

That didn’t sit well with some of Fox News’ viewers, who complained about the pontiff’s announcement marking the end of the Vatican’s holy year of mercy.

(despicable, un-Christian tweets at link)

I have news for those Fox Noise fans. Jesus died and left the Pope in charge, not the cold, self-righteous, woman-hating control freaks who probably aren't even Catholic!

modernizing the church.

Yes, there are major problems with the Catholic church with regard to treatment of women (and others, but this one is specifically about women), but you don't change something like that overnight.

Forward motion is better than none or moving backward.

Basically The Pope just said you are not going to hell for having an abortion.

Like all bad things we label as sins, most can be forgiven through confession. Abortion was not one of those sins. You needed a special forgiveness not allowed by priests. Now priests can grant you forgiveness thus no hell for having an abortion. Heads be exploding at my parish as I type.

Other Christians critical of The Pope's new message probably voted for orange man and shouldn't be taken seriously for anything involve thinking. Its way beyond them.

Especially the guys from Knights of Columbus. They're militantly anti-abortion to the point where they want to take over the keys to the kingdom and send the women to hell personally.

As for me, I feel a sense of relief that a woman who has had an abortion, as well as people who've been involved, such as those who've paid for or performed one, no longer has to suffer the public humiliation of being named and shamed just to get an automatic excommunication lifted. They can go to confession and be absolved--all with the seal of confession and their privacy respected.

Priests in America have had this authority for many years. Nothing new here in the States

I'd never heard of any list of sins a priest was not allowed to accept a confession for. And it seems theologically bonkers that the rank of the guy hearing the confession somehow results in greater powers of absolution.

My guess is that in some backwaters, bishops may have decreed that they need to hear such confessions, and the Pope is just setting them straight? But I can't speak with any authority on that, it's just my own speculation.

Now they do. I do not know the reasoning, it never interested me enough to dig deeper
