Revealed: Why Trump met with Farage

President-elect Trump urged British politician Nigel Farage to oppose offshore wind farms that Trump believes will mar view from his Aberdeenshire, Scotland, golf course, source tells New York Times

When President-elect Donald J. Trump met with the British politician Nigel Farage in recent days, he encouraged Mr. Farage and his entourage to oppose the kind of offshore wind farms that Mr. Trump believes will mar the pristine view from one of his two Scottish golf courses, according to one person present.

The meeting, held shortly after the presidential election, raises new questions about Mr. Trump’s willingness to use the power of the presidency to advance his business interests. Mr. Trump has long opposed a wind farm planned near his course in Aberdeenshire, and he previously fought unsuccessfully all the way to Britain’s highest court to block it.

The group that met with Mr. Trump in New York was led by Mr. Farage, the head of the U.K. Independence Party and a member of the European Parliament. Mr. Farage, who was a leading voice advocating Britain’s exit from the European Union, or Brexit, campaigned with Mr. Trump during the election. Arron Banks, an insurance executive who was a major financier of the Brexit campaign, was also in attendance.

Trump's very sensitive about having his bullying mafia tactics there exposed:

Donald Trump lawyers tried to stop BBC showing Scottish bullying film

Donald Trump tried to force the BBC to drop the broadcast of a critically acclaimed documentary on his alleged bullying of residents near his Scottish golf resort.

Lawyers for the New York property magnate contacted the BBC two days before the feature-length film You've Been Trumped was screened on BBC2 on Sunday night, claiming it was highly defamatory, biased and misleading, and demanding a right of reply.

In a letter to the BBC from Dundas & Wilson, a prominent Scottish law firm which has acted for Trump for several years, and seen by the Guardian, the Trump organisation threatened to complain formally to Ofcom and the BBC Trust if the screening went ahead.

The BBC rejected the request and gave the documentary, directed by Anthony Baxter, its network television premiere. It was watched by an estimated 1.1 million viewers, about 40% higher than average figures for the last three months, and earned praise from reviewers, trending on Twitter. ...

He lost his case to an unanimous judgment in the UK's highest court:

Donald Trump loses wind farm legal challenge

The silly old fart's just a sore loser.

As you might expect, his Aberdeenshire course hasn't been a success, and he's consistently broken his promises of major investment and job creation:

Trump fails to create promised jobs and investment in Scotland, locals say
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/trump-fails-to-create-promised-jobs-and-investment-in-scotland-locals-say-a6801466.html

He's just using the wind farm development as an excuse. He announced in 2011 that he didn't have enough money to complete the development, before the wind farm was even an issue:

Donald Trump's plan for £750m Scottish golf resort put on hold

Nigel Farage has always been a scumbag.

And UK independence = becoming The Unspeakable's 51st state? Interesting definition.

Both Nigel and the Unspeakable are thoroughly hated in Scotland, by the way.

UKIP has one MP, and he was a Tory defector. Farage has consistently stood for Westminster elections and failed every time. UKIP do well in European parliamentary elections because of two reasons, voter apathy and PR. If and when we do leave the EU, UKIP will become even more marginalised and irrelevant.

I'm sorry, but your loss is our gain. That's the best news I've heard all day. He won't go until the current UKIP leadership is sorted out. He might have to come back though, the last leader lasted just over a week. It's not a happy party.

This is what has happened to some of their MEPS.

Tom Wise

Stole £36,000 from Parliament and spent it on cars and wine. Jailed by Southwark Crown Court in November 2009

Ashley Mote

Stole £65,506 in illegally obtained benefits, and nearly £500,000 in fraudulent expenses. Jailed in 2007 and again in 2015.

Robert Kilroy-Silk

Quit UKIP in 2005 after MEPs discussed expelling him. Later set up his own party, but resigned from that too.

Nikki Sinclaire

Expelled by UKIP in 2009 after complaining about extremism in the party’s Parliamentary group. Later arrested for fraud and money-laundering

Mike Nattrass

Deselected by UKIP and quit in 2013, complaining of totalitarian leadership within the party.

Godfrey Bloom

Eventually suspended and then quit as UKIP MEP in 2013 after a recording emerged of him calling female conference delegates “sluts”.

Marta Andreasen

Defected to the Tories in 2013, citing Nigel Farage’s “anti-women” and “Stalinist” tendencies

David Campbell Bannerman

Defected to the Tories in 2011, reporting that UKIP was “beset by internal fighting”.

Amjad Bashir

Defected to the Tories in 2015. UKIP claimed it had already suspended him over financial irregularities.

Janice Atkinson

“Sidelined” for expenses fraud (though not expelled from the parliamentary group). Later allied with French National Front and other far-right parties.

Steven Woolfe

Flirted with defection to the Tories after failing in a leadership bid. Was allegedly punched by a fellow UKIP MEP, and quit the party shortly after.

Joking aside you do seem to have a knack of collecting our less funny comics. Ricky Gervais seems to have cracked America, but both Lenny Henry and Rik Mayall failed after one film. Dudley Moore was very successful, but his far funnier comedy partner Peter Cook was in a rather mediocre sitcom and that was it.

It doesn't work the other way round, two brilliant American comics, Reginald D Hunter and Rich Hall are both very big over here.

I don't know, on some things he's absolutely spot on, on others like Europe he's completely wide of the mark. On the balance I think he just makes it into the good guy camp. He's no longer an MP either, now he's a radio host. Just as well once you consider some of the stuff he gets up to.
