Trump is setting him up, acting as if he really wants the job (which may or may not be the case), and then he'll get to deny him. It's payback for Mitt's bashing of him during the race.
To Trump, the Art of the Humiliation is everything to him. We've seen it time and time and time again. Trump's out to punish those who dare spoke against him, and waiving a carrot in front of Mitt's face before yanking it away is how he in his own mind is going to get his.

(115,733 posts)I don't like him but he's not criminally insane, which seems to be a requirement for a position with the Trump Administration.
Ilsa
(61,695 posts)has better social standing, and will be better at protocol, as well as not be fly-off-the-handle crazy. Trump probably despises him.

(22,336 posts)I was afraid he'd want someone as short-tempered as he is.

(2,573 posts)This is a pretty sad and fucked up state of affairs.....but how can he when Don's a dick and they differ in foreign policy so much. How can Mitts take that job anyway????

(45,003 posts)Romney's setting himself up for a Trumping
(unless he's playing some game of his own).
Curious.

(5,790 posts)His Olympic background, as well as the fact that it is a meaningless (read: devoid of power) position that has a lot of prestige. Trump could be viewed as handing another olive branch to his opponents within the party, without actually giving up anything substantive.
Given her Indian decent, the recent tendency for women to be Sec State, and her years as a governor, Nikki Haley would make a lot of sense. In the end, however, I still think it will be Rudy.

(17,379 posts)could crater his presidency, and make him an automatic 2020 rival. Trump won't take that risk, his cabinet will be full of sycophants.
