General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI do not recognize Donald Trump as the President-elect.
Nor will I recognize him as President.
This is not about policy differences. I have had major policy differences with many elected officials. This is not about being a sore loser. I was upset about Bush v Gore and the shenanigans in Florida but I accepted those results.
This is about a foreign government directly and openly supporting one candidate and the possible hacking of votes. In addition, this is about the close ties and conflicts of interest that Donald Trump has with Putin and Russia. Until there is a complete and transparent investigation of this matter, Trump is a clear and present danger to this country.
There should also be a concurrent investigation into Trump's conflicts with other countries. The potential for him to make decisions based on personal gain is unparalleled and huge.
I am not calling for violence. I am stating my position however little effect it will have. I am not repudiating my American citizenship. This is my country and there are many people who represent the ideals it was founded upon even though they have dimmed.
I know this will have little or no effect and it will probably be ridiculed. Be that as it may, this is my position. It is one that I never thought I would ever even consider.
America is better than this and should be fought for.

(7,596 posts)I do not recognize this human shitbag as POTUS. You can't inaugurate a racist sexual predator with the maturity of an eight-year-old and just have me accept it as normal like he was anyone else. For-fucking-get it.

(22,976 posts)I don't know in the United States (as we now know them), will survive four years of one-party fascist rule. What's coming isn't for the faint of heart.
I view the incoming "administration" as pirates, preparing to raid and savage the public funds and resources for their own personal enrichment.
The zealousness that comes this way is antithetical to the most basic of American ideals. In fact, it is completely un-American.

(28,342 posts)Mr. Maru and I are seriously considering flight to Canada, as we are financially stable and have very marketable and desirable skills/education. We feel it's kind of now or never, while we have attractive experience and are still young enough to be reasonably attractive hires.
We just can't see ourselves staying in a country that elects a man that brags about assaulting women and grabbing them by the genitalia, is proud of not paying taxes, fans the flame of hate and revels in the support of white nationalists. We don't want to stay in a place that found his message and his words and his person attractive enough to elect - with or without help from Putin.

(31,401 posts)to do what you are considering. They think it might take them two moves--one out of the south where LGBTQ are demonized--
and then out of the country.
My husband and I have considered moving as far away as we could get--Hawaii--from the gun nuts, bigots and hate-filled white supremacists.
We don't have the energy or patience to start anew in another country (and Canada doesn't want retirees).
Personally, I think we are facing very dark days in this country.

(28,342 posts)if you can show solvency/sufficiency.
If you have any kind of life insurance policies you can likely shop around and find a company willing to pay you to cash them out. Consider cashing out retirement accounts. Sell property.
It will probably take us 1.5 to 3.5 years - but we're out of here.
Best of luck to you; I shall keep you in our good thoughts and wishes.

I think what you are doing makes sense, if that is what they want to do. Without exaggerating and all, the US with this creature as president and his herd is starting to remind me of Germany in our youth. I find it frightening as many of the same tactics are being used.
There is a strong potential IMO for the US to really fall into dark days ahead. It's not just Trump that bothers me, but all of these people he's giving power too. I think I will be dead before the US ever returns.

(7,768 posts)I believe there's a real shit-storm coming and I'm truly frightened, not only for this country, but for the entire planet.
When a tweet sets him off in an infantile, revengeful rage, what the fuck is he going to do when a terrorist takes out one or more of his hotels or golf clubs or properties globally? Everything with his name now has a big ole' bullseye in red on it. And he'll have the nuclear football...fuck.

(14,568 posts)1) Trump, as horrific as he is, is not the primary issue. The far right congess is. I dont know that we have seen a single mention of tgem here. I can say for a fact, if this was completely reversed rs would have the foresight to BOTH focus on the president elect AND rail on relentlessly about the "blank check" "radical congess" etc.
2) We cant put our hands over our ears, and scream that he doesnt exist. The reality is there are two standards, and while rs get to be impetuous asses, we dont. We have to make them own him, and to do that we have tacitly "give him a chance." The "I told you so" will be spun as not giving him a chance and there for it will be our fault. NOT SAYING BE ALL LOVEY DOVEY, but have to say we have our doubts and leave itvat that. THEN, say they own him and the mess.
The math here is this, 45, 45, 10.
Our 45 percent deals in reality.
Their 45 percent does not, and they will never believe reality.
The 10 percent is the problem. The mushy middle, which buys the right wing bullshit more often than not. TO THEM, us saying "I told you so" will be a slap in the face and rejected. I know our side might gave a hard time seeing this, but it just is what it is. We need these people to figure it out on their terms. So, we have to be focused and sharp in picking our battles and not give them an excuse to make it about the evil liberal.
Going directly after trump is fools gold. If this election proves anything, it is that. Like it or not, the 10 percent has to figure that out on their own.
Our fight has to be with Congress.

And yeah, my candidate in past elections didn't always win but I accepted the results. This election I don't and for tons of reasons.
But Hillary got more votes and is my President.

I agree with every word you wrote.
The attraction to Putin and the conflicts of interest concern me more than any despicable words or tweets he may have vomited. Until he is completely estranged from his business endeavors how can we trust any policy he may make?
I'll treat the title of President as a question from henceforth. President(?)None is his designation in my life now.

(24,032 posts)...such a pervasive darkness was when my younger brother, and only sibling, died in 1978, at age 23. It was the first thing on my mind every morning the moment I awoke, haunted me throughout the day, and was the last thing I thought of when I turned the lights out at night.
