Stein won't appeal machine recount; GOP files complaint

Madison — Green Party candidate Jill Stein will not appeal a judge's rejection of her lawsuit to force a hand recount of nearly 3 million presidential ballots in Wisconsin, clearing the way for machines to be used in the statewide effort beginning Thursday.

Also Wednesday, Stein filed another recount petition in Michigan and the Republican Party of Wisconsin filed a federal elections complaint against both Stein and Democrat Hillary Clinton. The complaint alleges that Stein — who received only a small share of the vote — is improperly fundraising to pay for a recount that primarily benefits Clinton, the second-place finisher behind GOP President-elect Donald Trump.

The fundraising amounts to improper coordination between the two campaigns, the complaint to the Federal Elections Commission alleges.

"Clinton stands as the only actor that would benefit from a recount taking place in Wisconsin or elsewhere," the complaint reads. "As outlined below, the Clinton campaign’s direct involvement in the recount process, which was announced well before the recount itself was paid for and finalized, demonstrates a clear link between the actions of the Stein campaign and the strategic goals of Hillary for America."

1. Makes you wonder why they're SO GODDAMN SCARED of a recount... if I knew I'd won fair and square,

and knew that you wanted to pay MILLIONS of dollars of money that you've raised to recount the votes, I'd say, "Fuck it; be my guest! Have fun wasting your money and embarrassing yourself!". In fact, I'd just let it happen, not say a word, and laugh about it privately.

However, everyone involved appears to be doing just the opposite (and, again, fighting MIGHTILY to not have to do the recount by hand). Makes you REALLY wonder why that is.

Now, I don't know that even a hand recount would show that much discrepancy (and if so, probably not enough to overturn results), but wouldn't you just LOVE to know that it was above board? To have it verified for everyone to see?

Very curious, indeed.

2. How DARE they try to suggest that election integrity is only the prerogative of SOME candidates.

Now, I will say straight-up that I think Jill Stein was a bullshit candidate, a gadfly, and a rabble-rouser, but she did the work to get on the frigging ballot and as such, deserves the very same considerations that are on offer to every single other person running for office.

The NERVE of the GOP to try and characterize anyone. You know damn well that were the shoe on the other foot, they'd be using any candidate they could bribe to gain the same advantage.

Trump repeatedly claimed the election was "rigged" before it took place, and that there was massive voter fraud against him afterwards. It seems that any recount would provide him with an opportunity to increase his vote total, thereby proving his point? Or, is he merely the noxious lying windbag that he appears to be?

7. Can counties still hand recount if they want?

Will the machine recount be of any use? If there was tampering, will the machine continue to not count votes that should have registered?

If I was Jill, I'd appeal them jacking up the price...and for what, not even a hand count?? Something stinks...

And there is no appealing the cost of the recount - if it's less than $3.5 million, she'll get some back. If it's more, she'll have to pay the difference.

I'm betting that Michigan will change their law so that candidates have to pay the cost for this type of recount. No reason for the counties to get stuck with the bill.

Stein explained her reasons. It's all about validating the voting process. She's serving the public good.

11. Citizens are also actors who could benefit

We could learn more about the sneaky ways the republicans rig the election.

Methods that we already know about include:
Purging the voting rolls (See Palast, Greg for more details)

Shortening early voting periods so Democratic voters have to stand in long lines on election day.

Making ID difficult to obtain for college kids

Grotham? an R from Wisc. even bragged about voter ID as a tool to suppress the vote and being to the republican's advantage.

What else is there, that they are messing with?

So the voting roles are purged of dead or moved....helps us too. R can't vote in their place

Shortening voting periods means ALL voters have to stand in line. Doesn't matter which side you vote for.

College kids pretty much all have driver's licenses as well as college IDs'. In fact I would say that almost 100% of college kids have an ID bc that is how they do everything on college campuses. That is actually good for us. Those should suffice as ID as someone has had to check all of their credentials to get them to the point they are accepted as students into said college.

Voter ID is good for us. Means they can't vote illegally like Trump claimed was happening.
