You know, the idiots who shoot into the air to "celebrate."
A town near me set off a few fireworks for 2017.
But I didn't hear any gunfire.

(146,317 posts)I still don't understand why people do that, though.
Now, back when I had a tuba, I would go outside and play the National Anthem on it at midnight, as loudly as I could. That made some sense, although it probably annoyed the heck out of my neighbors.
Here's a girl doing that:

(4,520 posts)from numerous directions. Someone a few blocks to the NW burned through a box of ammo, while a closer person opted for both barrels of a shotgun. That one rattled the windows and scared the cat. Oklahoma, where its not just the wind sweeping down the plains.

(12,157 posts)No shotgun blast during dove season or the super sonic crack of deer rifles this deer season. Last night there were no fireworks. I don't know what it means.

(1,264 posts)Granted the gunfire might be louder so it carries further, but still, it was quite unsettling.
Years ago I'd stand out in the (empty) street and look at all the fireworks going off, but for the past few years I hunker down inside my house to avoid bullets, and I worry about them coming through windows.
