Is Edward Snowden Still In Russia? He's Pushing For A Pardon From Overseas

Is Edward Snowden Still In Russia? He's Pushing For A Pardon From Overseas
Joseph D. Lyons
Bustle

Snowden ended up in Russia after he took NSA secrets that showed all sorts of things including the fact that the security agency was using bulk phone records of Americans. He at one point was stranded in the Moscow airport for weeks. Russia gave him a three-year residency permit in August of 2014. At the time, cooling relations between the United States and Russia all but ensured that Snowden would be shielded as a way to anger Washington.

Trump has been very anti-Snowden in the past. In 2014 he suggested on (of course) Twittter that Snowden be executed like in the "old days." Trump's pick to head the CIA feels similarly and has made the execution argument too.

Russia may not be perfect, but you can see why Snowden might consider staying with the political winds headed in that direction. His only other solution lies in Obama pardoning him before leaving the White House.

Putin will probably hand Snowden to Trump on or after Inauguration Day, as sign of good faith! TheBlackAdder Jan 2017 #7

That is supported by Snowden still being alive.

I think Snowden's got a good chance of being extradited to the U.S. now. There might be some sort of Putin/Trump agreement to spare Snowden execution. But if Snowden comes back, he's going down for some hard time.

All that smoke and mirrors about "a public service" was designed to keep the Russians in the dark about how much USA now knows about what Snowden was up to. You don't telegraph your knowledge to adversaries.

Snowden lied about his qualifications and lied on his security clearance applications--more than once. He lived a lifestyle that either suggested he was one HELLUVA fantastic money manager, or his income was being supplemented.

Snowden is more likely to get a pardon from TRUMP than anyone in the Obama administration. He helped Putin, and Putin helped Trump. One hand washes the other....
