RIO DE JANEIROEnvironment Minister Peter Kent says Canada must stop the spread of misinformation on the environment by ecologists with an ideological agenda.
Its the latest example of strained relations between Prime Minister Stephen Harpers government and the environmental movement.
Kent, who is attending a United Nations conference in Brazil on the environment, said Thursday that ideology has tinged criticism of the federal governments efforts.

I would guess their government listens to them as well as ours does to us. But damn I envy them.

I don't keep up with Canadian issues, but I would guess this all started then.

Harper became PM in February, 2006, but he has only had a majority in Parliament for about a year, so so the hardcore gutting of environmental regulations and silencing of scientists only really started in earnest in 2011.
