She's smart. And she seems like a decent person with none of your usual Republican demons. She reminds of a dear friend of mine, whose politics I cannot stand, but outside of politics is one of my favorite people. I just avoid talking politics with her. Our sons went to school together, played ball together. Spent many hours with her at travel ball tournaments all over the state.

I would throw Steve Schmidt into the same category with everything I am about to say. Nicole and Steve are both classy people. What separates them from many other Republicans is that they are not know-nothings--they are not hostile toward science, and they are not hostile toward minorities. Both of them filed amicus briefs with the Supreme Court during the gay marriage cases, attempting to encourage the conservative justices to rule in favor of marriage equality. What turned them off to Donald Trump is all the same things that we find revolting about him--his lack of ethics and his hostility toward minorities.

It is certainly true that I disagree with them on a lot of policy issues, national security and foreign policy immediately come to mind. However, on the most core and fundamental issues of what it means to be an American, and those core values? The values of individual liberty, equality under the law, and justice for all? There can be no argument that we are all fighting on the same team. That is what separates them from most other major Republicans, who have no ethical integrity and have repulsive values.

If all Republicans were like Nicole and Steve, there would be a lot less hostility between the parties.

Why do people praise Republicans on this site but bash leftists? Who do you have more in common with?
