A thread for supporters or the ACA

Keep this kicked and tell us your story of how the ACA has helped you, your family or others get access to affordable, life-saving health care.

Personally, I have insurance for the first time in over twenty years since opening my own business and losing employer coverage.

I am pleased that - as an aging person - I've got a safety net that will keep me from financial ruin if my health turns bad.

Currently am working full-time and have Medicare too. But there were years where I knew I was ready to do something different, but hesitated because I was tied to my employer's health plan. There were other times where I kept a private policy with a high deductible just so I could tell my employer where to stick it if I got tired of their BS. There were years where I worked as a consultant on different projects and had to pay for a very expensive health care policy that was virtually worthless unless I got really sick.

There is no doubt the ACA has a lot of problems. But it was a big breakthrough in health care for a lot of people. If red states had not balked at Medicaid expansion, it would have helped a lot of other people. Of course a Public Option would have really made it appealing.

It's interesting that with all the criticism before, people are suddenly praising it when there is a chance it could be repealed without a creditable replacement.
