General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt started with a retiree. Now the Womens March could be the biggest inauguration demonstration.
Teresa Shook never considered herself much of an activist, or someone particularly versed in feminist theory. But when the results of the presidential election became clear, the retired attorney in Hawaii turned to Facebook and asked: What if women marched on Washington around Inauguration Day en masse?
She asked her online friends how to create an event page, and then started one for the march she was hoping would happen.
By the time she went to bed, 40 women responded that they were in.
When she woke up, that number had exploded to 10,000.
Now, more than 100,000 people have registered their plans to attend the Womens March on Washington in what is expected to be the largest demonstration linked to Donald Trumps inauguration and a focal point for activists on the left who have been energized in opposing his agenda.

(8,919 posts)Stephanie Miller pushing this march on her radio show every morning?
I hope it reaches 1,000,000 women march numbers.
She's also performing her Sexy Liberal either the night before, that night or the night after.
She should get Teresa Shook on her show.
That would be a YUUUGGGGEE publicity bump on her facebook page.

(6,699 posts)Better than sitting on my ass at home, but we all know it won't get any coverage, and the groper will write some bull shit tweet, or find some other distraction to steal the attention of the "flashy object viewer" so that it becomes meaningless.
Why not Inauguration Day?? They can't ignore that. He deserves NO respect whatsoever. To allow this fascist idiot a day of unobstructed respect and attention sets this country back a HUGE step. We need to show from day 1 what a disgrace and illegitimate jack ass this clown is, and how we will not accept this nightmare sitting down!

(37,748 posts)You're confusing "gesture" with "conviction."
Also, if there's no coverage of this event, what specifically leads you to believe it would then receive coverage the previous day? "They" can ignore that as well should they desire.
But I get it... it's much more convenient to our complacency-justified-by-screaming-online to instruct others on what to do rather than to do it ourselves.
Let us know how your day of action goes!

(6,699 posts)The week before, the month after. The only time the camera will be in focus is ON Inauguration Day.
Didn't think I was screaming on line, but if that's the way you like to characterize an opinion, then have at it.

(34,136 posts)The Trump people even tried to block the days before and after - I'm not sure how they are getting around that.
That there will be many women's marches all over country might make a larger impact. Local news sources are more likely to cover the local marches than the major ones to cover a single large one. Even if the numbers were equal, I would bet the local marches will get more media.
With local coverage people will see their neighbors being active which will make more of an impression than seeing strangers hundreds or thousands of miles away. Knowing that there are thousands of people in their own community that feel strong enough about the issue to get out there should get through to them.
I appreciate your view. I certainly am hopeful the media gives it due attention. I'm just not optomistic.

(34,136 posts)But since we need to reach the average person, I have hopes that having many marches will reach more of them.

That would explain the other dates. This is such a depressing event for our nation, to inaugarate such a low life, reality star clown. We are one very sick nation.

(63,883 posts)is going extreme right now. tRump will be friends will all dictators and us people will be the serfs.
Well Russia was behind tRump for a long time, their Manchurian candidate, always wanted to take the US down. But the pendulum will move back to the left and when it does it will swing back hard.

But I'm in the process of moving back to the states because I am mad as hell about the orange one #NOTMYPRESIDENT and can't fight them over here. I'm moving back to AZ. Yes, red state. Better there than in a blue state. I've never been involved in politics before like this, but I'm too old to give up and too young to stop fighting. I have a 9 yrs before retirement and I want every penny I paid in, back. I have to make sure that this admin and idiots don't steal my retirement (and country).
