(52,162 posts)It allows me to show some individuality in my dress and provides a splash of color to my wardrobe. I can wear a pink or orange tie where I would be loathe to wear an orange shirt and would never wear orange or pink pants.

(146,317 posts)It's really a non-issue. I don't care what our legislators wear. I care about what they say and do. They could come to their offices wearing jeans and t-shirts or tuxedos and it wouldn't matter to me one bit. I'm sure there is some sort of written or unwritten dress code for legislators, at least the men. Formal business attire.
It's not worth debating, really, in my opinion.

(38,317 posts)Some of them have to be trained on how to dress when doing business elsewhere. Seriously.
My oldest kid is a sharp dresser and a serious professional. I think the shoes in his closet cost more than my entire wardrobe. I rarely see him wearing a tie. When he does they are not conservative.
This goes way back. My grandfather was an aerospace engineer in California. I never saw him wear a tie. At his most formal, he wore a bolo tie, a big chunk of silver and turquoise like this:
He also liked gold jewelry, and fancy buttons.
I've got a picture of him in his Army Air Force officer's uniform. He's wearing a tie in that, but only because he didn't have a choice.

...so that voters could easily yoke them when they got out of line - like hare krishnas and their shock of hair God uses to yank them into heaven.

(28,264 posts)His ties are invariably 3" to 4" too long, hanging down below the belt line. Makes him look like an even bigger doofus, which is saying something. A guy who can't manage a passing grade in Neckties 101---at age 70, after a lifetime of wearing ties---shouldn't be the president of the United States.

I'll bet there are two schools of thought on that.
I remember when most white collar workers all wore hats
I wear a hat every day too.
