There's an even more disturbing reason Trump might want to re-structure our Intel services.

Sure, he's likely attacking the Intel community or claiming he will change it so that when they find something out, likely criminal, about him, he can say it was just revenge and the charges all lies,.

But what if he wants to change, subtly at first, all of the nation's security to be in his service, and change our police into Trump squads, or whatever.

This is an exaggeration, but what he might do is just as insidious, only more subtle.

than Trump. As you, " I'm not convinced he's the brains behind this operation." There is an attempt going on to restructure this country and convince the masses this is the normal. In short, it's all getting pretty weird.

4. Night of the Long Knives....
Thu Jan 5, 2017, 12:14 PM

look it up. A quick synopsis from Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Long_Knives

The Night of the Long Knives (German: About this sound Nacht der langen Messer (help·info)), also called Operation Hummingbird or, in Germany, the Röhm Putsch (German spelling: Röhm-Putsch), was a purge that took place in Nazi Germany from June 30 to July 2, 1934, when the Nazi regime carried out a series of political extrajudicial executions intended to consolidate Hitler's absolute hold on power in Germany. Many of those killed were leaders of the SA (Sturmabteilung), the Nazis' own paramilitary Brownshirts organization; the best-known victim was Ernst Röhm, the SA's leader and one of Hitler's longtime supporters and allies. Leading members of the left-wing Strasserist faction of the Nazi Party (NSDAP), along with its figurehead, Gregor Strasser, were also killed, as were establishment conservatives and anti-Nazis (such as former Chancellor Kurt von Schleicher and Bavarian politician Gustav Ritter von Kahr, who had suppressed Adolf Hitler's Munich Beer Hall Putsch in 1923). The murders of Brownshirt leaders were also intended to improve the image of the Hitler government with a German public that was increasingly critical of thuggish Brownshirt tactics.

In fact, Stalin did similar shit to the Soviet Army in the 30's, which led to nearly losing to the Germans in WWII.

You're likely not far off from the truth. While I doubt there will be a lot of actual assassinations (I hope), there will probably be people fired and careers ended.

Perhaps I'm getting too optimistic in my old age*, but I thing we are an exceptional people at an exceptional time, and by that I only mean our respect for law and faith in democracy will prevent us from going the way of modern dictatorships &c.

*****************************

*I'm not too optimistic, especially about the long term. I think we'll will soon inevitably cross the line which will mean climate change will destroy our species in 100-150 years.

There's too much complacency in the people who could do something about this. Complacency, no morals, and no integrity.

Part of the problem with absolute power and corruption as seen in the Republican party right now is their over-reaching.

seem very well educated when it comes to governmental affairs and history.

DU is a special breed and certainly not representative IMO of the masses when it comes to intuition and understanding what is likely occurring.

Far too many Americans seem to still believe in Trump and the GOP shenanigans to their own detriment IMO.

if he and the Repugs weaken our intelligence agencies and we get attacked by terrorists (ala 9/11) they will own it.

This is as irresponsible as Dubya ignorning the PDB when told we could expect an attack.

Worst case scenario.

Professional intelligence people resign and those left will do what is required of them via new directives.

Apparently that's akin to what happened in the FBI/Comey and Clinton's email b.s. One wonders what the percentage is in these agencies between those willing to go along with treason and those who believe in democracy and the Rule of Law.

You poor, misguided boor. You have no idea that when you're trying to bitch-slap the likes of the CIA and the NSA, you're playing with the REAL bullies in the schoolyard do you? These people don't tweet at 3AM about their perceived enemies, they defeat them totally and completely with nary a trace.

Donnie, Dude.... these people can chew you up and spit you out like a piece of bad meat and you'll never even know how it happened.

Think about it Don, your assets are spread out around the world; you can't keep your eyes or you thumb on everything you've got going, can you? So if you want to continue poking this hornet's nest, you're an even bigger fool than any of us ever imagined.

Donnie, these people are professionals at what they do and they do it very well. They don't take being made the butt of your lame jokes or threats lightly. Just remember dude, you started it.

Oh, and if this small revelation keeps you up at nights and sends your paranoia into overdrive....well, shit happens.

painfully obvious this is a purge. only the "right" people will stay - the good will be dismissed.

when there's the inevitable "terror event" - look for those ranks to suddenly be filled and expanded.

my hope is that the spooks rally and decide not to play that game. In that case, trump may be in for a big surprise.

Some US$56 billion or 70% of the US$80 billion national intelligence budget of the United States was in 2013 earmarked for the private sector according to the New York Times' Tim Shorrock.
Functions previously performed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), and other intelligence agencies are now outsourced to private intelligence corporations
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_intelligence_agency

When Trump says he thinks the CIA is "too politicized" he means he wants more privatized CIA...someone in his circle is looking at all that money, you can bet.

and when Trump says he does not want Secret Service, and is relying on his private squad of paid bodyguards, that gives credence to his wanting independence from accountability.
trump and the gang that is leading him around, of course.
