They are going to FUCK it UP which is GREAT news for us.

I've been at this for a long goddamned time. I'm old. I've been watching different administrations coming and going since JFK.

Never have I seen such discord and chaos amongst the KoolAid drinkers, and it's almost all because of the Orange Pig's Ass. He CANNOT stay on focus; he cannot stay off his goddamned Twitter account; he cannot focus on ANY type of unified message. He's treating our government like it's one of his fucking reality TV shows. . . . . "I may or may not make that decision by Tuesday?"--

I'm not saying we don't need to fight back, because these fuckers are dumb AND destructive. But IMHO, they are going to flail around and flail around and then end up pissing off their idiotic supporters. And it wouldn't take much to peel enough of them away to kick that asshole OUT.

These next four years will be ugly, but they would be far worse if the Repigs had somebody in office with some political savvy and some sense. Trump has neither other than an ability to whip up the Alt Right.

On edit-- I have to add that "Trump fatigue" will play a HUGE role in the next election. Let's not forget that this punk is a complete and total spoiled fucking idiot. The American public will be so goddamned tired of him by 2020. I think people really are sick of him right now except for the hard core fuck nuts who will get their payback soon enough with no health insurance.

it is all about power and money!! And they are treating us as idiots, when we have the biggest one tweeting all the time. God, this is disgusting but it is what it is we need to dig deep and fight back. Push back.

1. they don't completely change how elections are won and votes are cast+counted. Autocrats don't like liberal democracies, so expect voting rights to be further gutted, DOJ to be neutered or directed away from fraud and corruption, propaganda (like a national news network aka fox) running 24/7 in perpetuity

2. they don't do so much damage that it will take more than 2 years to turn around. If we do make him a 1 term POTUS then the successor will need to show positive impact or we're all going to get whiplash from the back and forth of subsequent elections

It will be a pleasure to watch them crash and burn. Our country will be damaged for many years to come, but this is the price we must pay for not actively participating in our government.

Hate to be pessimistic, but these a-holes are going to be vindictive and punitive towards anyone they don't like. They are collectively drunk with power and they will never, ever relinquish it. Like you, I hope for less than four years, but from what I am seeing so far I am expecting this to last long after I am dead and gone. Since two months ago, we are America in name only.

that we are now one of those countries that have elections for show, but there is never any doubt of the outcome in any race, because it is all tied up nice and pretty with Dear Leader and his cohorts receiving 99.9% of the vote and anyone who disagrees disappearing.

that I'm worried about is that he'll say something that will provoke someone such as North Korea to attack us. As most of us are probably aware, NK has been testing out their long-range missiles. Living in CA, I'm worried they'll have something that can reach the West Coast.

I'm not sure there are any historical precedents for any of this. That is, a stable, long term democracy, that has maintained, more or less, democratic, constitutional rule for over 200 years, falling into fascism during a long term period of, for the most part, peace and prosperity. Maybe Rome's transformation from a republic into an empire.

We've maintained, even if imperfectly, democratic and constitutional government through a civil war, through two global wars, through a decades long Cold War, through assassinations and major social upheavals. We've pulled ourselves back from the brink during the McCarthy era, and after all of that, we're now walking right into fascism, peacefully and voluntarily.

I believe that we've been heading in this direction for the past few decades, with the groundwork being done by some very clever and extremely wealthy people who have funded think tanks and created a massive propaganda infrastucture, and gradually transformed what had been a conservative party, into a radical RW fascist one, and propagandized millions of people into followers; and they have done this mostly under the radar of people who should have been paying attention. And as I said, what they have achieved is historically unprecedented.

Where we go from here is anybody's guess. Maybe we slip into a totalitarian dystopia that lasts for decades. Maybe there will be a civil war, and the country will break apart. Maybe we'll end up having WWIII, and there will be nothing left but the cockroaches. Or maybe we'll be able to pull ourselves out of it before it becomes irreversible.

The fact that the "leader" is an overgrown infant, and the fascist party is tripping over their shoelaces in their overreaching power grabs, before he even gets inaugurated, is the one thing that gives me any hope that this country might manage to pull itself out. If we had gotten a more "reasonable" and sane looking R president, they would have been able to maintain the facade of normalcy until it was too late. So maybe Trump getting in is really a blessing in disguise.

I honestly wish I was reading about this in a history book, rather than living through it.

I apologize for posting my late night mental meanderings, but hope that it makes at least a little bit of sense to anyone other than myself.

That was one of the more intelligent assessments I have seen.
I too hope for the best, but I see dark days ahead and it is pretty scarey to say the least. It's hard to imagine that we voted ourselves into this situation, but then again a coup is a coup is a coup.
Good luck to everyone out there and never EVER let them off the hook. Keep talking to people like the election hasn't happened yet. We can never get complacent.

And, yeah. I agree that the GOP are going to fuck it up. With the failed attempt at gutting the independent ethics commission, they are off to a good start in that regard. I just hope they don't cause irreparable damage in the process.

the will of the people will be behind it. It will be so apparent to everyone that he has to go. Alternatively, he might find some excuse to resign, as Nixon did, to avoid worse. Then nobody could point very many fingers.
