Stocks close mostly lower on doubts about Trump's policies

Stocks closed mostly lower Thursday as uncertainty over some of President-elect Donald Trump's policies gave investors pause despite solid economic data.

During his campaign, Trump called for an overhaul of the North American Free Trade Agreement and has said repeatedly he will construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump has also called out companies for sending jobs out of the U.S. into other countries.

"There is still a lot of uncertainty," said Jeremy Klein, chief market strategist at FBN Securities. "We haven't had the inauguration, let alone details about his policies." "Not everyone is sold that this market is a one-way ramp higher," Klein said.

The S&P 500 fell nearly 0.1 percent, with financials falling more than 1 percent to lead decliners. The Dow ended 42 points lower, with Goldman Sachs contributing the most losses. The Nasdaq outperformed, rising 0.2 percent to a record high.

That's as close to "unchanged" as you are going to get.

Note that DU announced Dow 100 points down? That was first of the day! Dow GAINED ground through the day, to close 42 points lower, still slightly under 20,000.

Trump has tweeted out more self-congratulations on jobs, right? He's going to take blame as well as credit whenever jobs are lost as well as saved, right? Or the popular media are going to call him out for being a self-promoting huckster, right?

Hmmm. Seems a little cold for crickets to be chirping.
