Intel Chief James Clapper: Russia Behind Fake News in 2016

"SNIP............

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said on Thursday that Russia cyberattacking campaigns are “multi-faceted” and also include fake news. “This was a multi-faceted campaign,” Clapper said at a Senate hearing on Thursday morning. “So the hacking was only one part of it, and it also entailed classical propaganda, disinformation, fake news.” Clapper’s testimony confirms suspicions that, in addition to hacking into U.S. political institutions like the Democratic National Committee, Russia helped propagate and spread fake news online as part of its purported goal of helping to elect Donald Trump. Asked whether Russia’s campaign is continuing, Clapper said simply: “Yes.”

I'm from Europe and a lot of our online medias are flooded with Kremlin propaganda by their so called army of Internet trolls. Ever since Obama got elected the comment sections of news websites were attacked by the trolls. Their plot is pretty simple, yet at times effective. Some new account, usually with an avatar that portrays Obama as a monkey, appears out of no where and immediately gets a lot of upvotes. Their posts pretty much include - trash Obama and the USA, praise Putin and say how everyone against you is spreading propaganda and is a puppet of George Soros. Then another new account immediately respond with some criticism and gets a lot of downvotes and a smart reply from the first account that would supposedly crush his arguments.

The whole reason for this is pretty simple - make people believe that their countrymen support Putin and hate Obama and the US. Unfortunately, it does work, especially on older people. To be perfectly honest, back in the day I kinda fell for it too as some of their comments seemed pretty damn convincing.

At first, when tRump news started appearing on these websites pretty much everyone hated him. However, after a while your average Russian troll with Obama as a monkey avatar started leaving comments that support tRump and the US. When we got to know that it's going to be Hillary vs Don the Con the comment sections of these websites were literally full with trolls.

In short, the paid trolls went from hating the US to supporting the US and tRump. While people are outraged that tRump supports Putin, I think that's not something we should pay attention to. The other side is the more interesting one - Putin supports tRump, the man who will make America "great" again. Now we need to asks ourselves - why would Putin - the wannabe dictator who gets really angry if things don't go his way, who also hates America and everything that comes out of it - would all of a sudden bow down and go against his own opinion and start supporting the US and it's leaders.

hurting Putin. That's why he is a Trump fan. Also the price of oil seems to be rising.
