The celebration of ignorance and the denigration of knowledge as "elitist"

were hallmarks of the Trump campaign. Trump's appointments and the early actions of the GOP congress are doubling down on that dangerous philosophy.

It's going to take a long time to reverse this disheartening development.

This is worse than I ever expected.

But since I went to a somewhat "elite" university, have a master's degree and I'm a liberal I guess I'm considered an elitist.

liberal dem my entire life. i resent being called an elitist. they called us that when obama ran in '08. said we were "latte drinking, volvo driving elitists". i've never been in a starbucks and i've been driving a mazda miata for 11 years.

i didn't graduate from college.

and own homes or condos when I barely make ends meet to call me an elitist pisses me off. I could be be working in a high paid corporate job (and have) but choose to do something that is meaningful and help the weakest members of society because it is much more fulfilling. I would never go back to the meaningless jobs I used to have that only served to help the rich get richer. That is not what I wanted to do with my life.

late husband was a "systems engineer" for IBM. worked his way up for 43 years. at age 60 he bought his dream car -- a porsche 911. he still wore dockers and most of his shirts came from old navy. he was far from "elite".

my primary care doc drives a honda civic with 200,000 miles on it. said "i'm not the type to drive a BMW or mercedes". he was a fan of hillary.
