I nearly fell on the floor.

Just watched the tail end of an old TV western on MeTV. Trackdown, episode 28, starring Robert Culp. Culp, playing a Texas Ranger, saves the town from a snake oil salesman who has then convinced that the End of The World (the episode title) will happen at midnight. He tells them he has the only thing that can save them. It creates a wall that protects them from the meteors. He sells them paper parasols for $75.00 each. His name is Trump.

...in 1959. But his Daddy, Fred, had been investigated by a senate committee for profiteering from public contracts in 1954. Woody Guthrie also became Fred Trump's tenant in 1950, and was vocally critical of his landlord. So it's probably not about the Donald, but it probably is a reference to the Donald's Dad.
