Why is the media spending 90% of the news cycle

covering the attack in Florida? We know the details now. It doesn't matter how many press conferences the FBI or the local authorities have we know enough details about it. Santiago is mentally ill. He was in the military. He went to Iraq. He is a murderer. We know how many people were killed and injured. What else can be said?

We have another attack that is just as important, if not more important, than the attacked by a single killer in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Russia has attacked our country. It should be the top story and covered 95% of the time. We need more answers. Donald Trump needs to be held accountable for his words and actions. Our country is turning into s*** because no one is willing to do a damn thing. The only hope we have is the people rising up. Peaceful protest? Really? When our country has been attacked in the past attempting to destroy us and our democracy we have defended ourselves. Saying bye bye two diplomats does very little. Saying something is being done secretly in the background we know nothing about, not to worry, is ridiculous. Why are we being taken for fools? The American people knew when we declared war in the past. The American people knew we had an adversary we need to bring to heel. We know very little about Trump's involvement and his handler's involvement. We are helpless. And no one really gives a good rat's ass. It seems to me some of the politicians that are being interviewed just want the positive exposure and to be looked at as standing up for our nation. John McCain and Lindsey Graham included. It's just talk. "Yah, yah yah, yah, we care about the home of the brave and the American citizen." Really?

They don't want us to know all the ways they screw us. They cut back on investigative journalist for more than just financial reasons. They want us rooting for our "Team," so we overlook what our team does to us. We justify it and the media helps us to do so. Someone posted the current RW headlines and it is no wonder they are filled with anger and fear! Even our media are taking sides. Sure the left wing is more grounded in facts, but usually we get one story at a time all day on every program, just like this terrible airport shooting.

We will need a political revolution where too many Americans insist upon politicians with no debt to big Donors, insist upon Publicly Funded Elections, busting up the media and banking oligopolies, and free and fair elections.

Sounds like a dream, and maybe it is. Too many of us care about whether you have a D rather than an I after your name than what you stand for. Too many ignore the quid pro quo's their favorite candidates make as long as they verbally attack anyone with an R after their name vociferously, hey, he/she is on OUR team! The media make sure we are fired up about the latest attack on our team!

We are ruled by a Shadow government that owns both teams. They run the regulatory agencies, own the media and the MIC. They have branched out to other countries and have been consolidating power. They huddle up in Davos every year to compare notes and further divide up territory.

Sounds ridiculous i agree, but it is not! How bad will it have to be before we wake up? They will be ready. OWS served them notice that we are starting to figure it out so they squashed it like a bug. They cannot squash the knowledge of it from us all. Not all of us fall prey to their manipulations and propaganda.

Oh a great many do, and sad to say it is not just the Fox Bots on the Right. We on the left have ignored the corporate takeover of our party because we want to believe them. Then they keep spying on us and doing terrible trade deals like the TPP. They prosecute every whistleblower instead of reward them. They appoint middle right Justices to SCOTUS when we need more RBG's. If we cannot get a Merrick Garland passed why not appoint a civil rights lawyer like Barry Sheck? We support them because otherwise it would be even worse! Well i think they really screwed up now, because now it will be even worse. They are about to go too far on everything. My hope is that we have our American Spring!

Referring to your two points. What Sanders brings to the equation is the fact that young voters can be motivated to turn out.

As to an American Spring, I think the Occupy Movement was the first, perhaps too early green shoot of that spring.

Black people fought for 100 years after the civil war for rights. They are still fighting. Progress is slow but steady.

Agreed also that the 1% own politicians from both parties, and what they want is generally framed as good for the country. Or the limits of what is achievable.

All we have is Trump's propaganda core in the news media.
I don't care if it's Hannity or Maddow, they are all the same in the end: propaganda and Gaslighting ( YES, Hannity is a lot more obvious but Maddow is not doing her job either and in the end the result is the same)

I'll change my mind:

*When they start asking serious questions, directly to trump and his surrogates and demanding actual answers (not word salad, no fake news stories and no false statements)

*stop letting trump surrogates on their shows to monologue for 5-10 minutes straight and then move on to their next segment leaving the trump surrogates unchallenged and unanswered.

*When they start actually addressing trump's criminal actions in a serious manner and with as much effort and vindictiveness as they did with non-criminal actions of Clinton or Obama or Sanders.

*When they actually challenge the insanity of a president-elect using a social media app as a tool to bullly and abuse and intimidate people as well as to air half-baked policy positions with no foundation in reality.

*When they humbly and without reservation, apologize for having a live video on full screen of a empty podium, for almost 30 minutes, that trump would eventually walk to while the Democratic Party candidate was small screen with no audio for that entire time while giving a speech at a large event

The so called "press" does that then I may consider believing they are the press and not a bunch of elementary school newspaper "reporters" pretending to be real journalists.

Look! People running! They look scared! What happened? We'd better rerun the tape!

Look! People running! They look scared! What happened? We'd better rerun the tape!

That's why - because it's cheaper to just roll tape over and over and over again than it is to be journalists.

Same reason talk radio became big in the 1990s - it's cheap.

Figure that one in every ten Americans is basically fucking nuts. They're angry, angry, I tell you! Flouridation, Yalta, slow trash pickup, black people, nudity, marijuana, halogen light bulbs, whatever.

And since no one in their little town wants to talk to them anymore, and in the big city, people just walk away when they rant, they're happy to talk all day long on the radio, or even just wait for their call to get screened. All you need is a glib, amoral host, some production assistants and a decent phone budget, and that costly "news coverage" goes away. All those endless minutes of broadcast time, filled for free!

There was no conservative talk radio revolution - there were just suits, looking for the cheapest, easiest way to sell advertising, and they found it. And there is no news today on television, because the suits found the cheapest, easiest way to sell advertising in that medium as well.

They take one story and repeat the same details over and over again, all day for several days. It definitely is important news and deserves to be covered thoroughly, but not to the exclusion of other important stories. It shouldn't be a matter of Ft. Lauderdale OR Russian hacking. 24/7 news channels certainly have enough time to report on both, as well as other stories.

I'll bet they were quick to break away from Ft. Lauderdale to report on Trump's latest tweet.
