Bernie Sanders Becomes A Massive Thorn In Trumps Side With One Statement On Social Security

Bernie Sanders Becomes A Massive Thorn In Trump’s Side With One Statement On Social Security
Jason Easley
PoliticusUSA

During an interview on CBS’s Face The Nation, Priebus said, “I don’t think President-elect Trump wants to meddle with Medicare or Social Security. He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn’t want to do. But what he wants to do is grow the economy, help shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations. And if we can get three to five, 6% growth, we’ll do that. And we’ll explode the economy, and bring jobs back, and make trade more fair across the world, lower rates for everyone, and I think hopefully get businesses going again so people can put more money in their pocket.”

Sen Sanders said that Priebus’s remarks were not good enough, ““At a time when the Republican leadership is working overtime to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, the statement by Mr. Priebus is just not good enough. Mr. Trump must make it clear to the American people that he will keep the promises he made during the campaign and veto any legislation that cuts Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”

Sanders is about to put Republicans to the test. The Senator from Vermont has a vote scheduled for Tuesday on a budget amendment that would prevent the Senate from breaking Trump’s campaign promise not to cut Social Security and Medicare.

Donald Trump may soon be the president, but if he tries to cut Social Security and Medicare he will make an immediate enemy in populist force of nature Bernie Sanders.

An uncompromising stand for one of the pillars of the New Deal by a Democratic Socialist.

And Sanders must emphasize that actual improvements can be made, such as lifting the earnings cap on income subject to taxation as well as including unearned income in that tax base. Let the 1% pay a bit more so that the bottom 90% can have security in retirement.

Recommended.

Assuming you are from that state.

Sanders would be an excellent choice as Chair of the DNC but his voice is needed in the Senate.

Sanders is a Democratic Socialist. But there are Democratic Congress people who can do it, including obviously Elizabeth Warren.

When he endorsed Clinton and stated, among other things, that Trump is a "pathological liar", who based his campaign on "bigotry".

So I very much doubt that Trump would try to curry favor with Sanders at this point. He's probably already on Donald's no so secret enemies list.

He's using this moment to clarify for the public just who Trumpy is. Sanders is creating a narrative. He's preparing Trumpy's vocal base for a moment when Trumpy will abandon them, which will be very bad for Trumpy. Sanders will see to that. However, Trumpy may create a "unique event" and actually do as he promised, in which case Sanders and the Democrats can declare victory for the people they want to represent.

It's a win-win for the Democrats, and a smart move.

Social Security, Medicare and other programs, I see the win there.
Now, how is it a "win" if he doesn't?

Because his base will be mad? So what? We lose the safety nets so how is that a win?
Do people understand this is not a game here. Do you understand how powerful trump will be as president?

He isn't afraid of Bernie or anybody else. He is in now. He couldn't give a damn about the people he used to get there or what they think or if they get mad.

We are the Titanic and trump and the republicans are the iceberg.

that erodes our paychecks and quality of life

You cannot grow an economy at 5-6% without significant inflation

even if you do pump oil until we're all lubed
