Tax Returns

Someone in the media at the press conference yesterday, asked tRUMP to show his tax returns. He said that he would after the audit is done. The very next question from that reporter or the next reporter should have been, "Then can you at least give us proof that you're being audited?" Then, of course Trump's reply would have been something like, "Oh, so now you're calling me a liar!?" And, then the reporter should shoot back, "Look, you didn't believe President Obama was born in the US. You demanded he show his birth certificate. You even said that he must have something to hide if he's not showing it. So, the fact that you're not showing us your tax returns or proof that you're actually being audited, should make any person believe that you must have something to hide!" He needs to be embarrassed like that in a forum which will has millions of people watching him! Media, do your job!!

And the answer to the hypothetical question from Trump, "Oh, so now you're calling me a liar!?" should be "Yes, Absolutely I am!".

2. of all his statements, i'm willing to believe his claim that he's being audited.

his tax returns are sufficiently complex as to virtually guarantee that at any time, he'll have at least one tax year under audit.

if the media lets him get away with the audit excuse, then he never has to release his taxes because there will always be an audit.

the only reason his lawyers could possibly give him for advising against releasing his income taxes is because releasing them allows extra public scrutiny -- the public might find a tax problem that the auditors wouldn't have, but then the auditors can read it in the paper.

so donnie gets hit with a fine that he otherwise might have escaped.

but all this plays out that way only if donnie actually ran afoul of the tax code. if his tax returns are kosher he has nothing to worry about. even that scenario does play out, he can certainly get away with saying oops, my accountant goofed, just pay the extra tax and be done with it.

the fact that he didn't do that practically guarantees that there's something quite damning in those returns.

Any tax attorney would be committing malpractice if they recommended releasing the returns. Yes, releasing the returns would allow tens of thousands of accountants and tax attorneys the opportunity to look over the returns and find things the IRS didn't. The fact is any tax return as large and complicated as Trump's will always have things which violate the tax code. It would be impossible to create a return that did not. Warren Buffett, the left's favorite billionaire owes taxes going back to 2002. Is he purposely cheating the IRS? Why doesn't he release his returns?

Yes, an attorney, advising solely on the legal aspect of a client's action, would have to say there's zero legal upside and possible legal downside to releasing taxes, and therefore recommend against it.

But other candidates no doubt have received the same advice and released anyway because of the political and ethical importance of letting the people know the financial arrangements of the person they're voting to run their country outweighs the possible personal legal risk.

Donnie clearly did that same calculation and came to a different conclusion.

Donald Trump Jr. Says Releasing Father’s Tax Returns Would Raise Too Many Questions

Donald Trump Jr. says that one reason for not releasing his father’s tax returns ― a tradition followed by every major party presidential candidate in the past 40 years ― is that it would simply invite too much scrutiny from ordinary people.

“He’s got a 12,000-page tax return that would create … financial auditors out of every person in the country asking questions that would detract from [his father’s] main message,” Trump Jr. said in an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review published Wednesday.

He must be trying to hide things he does not want the citizens of the US to know. He says Lyin Ted, in fact he is Lyin Donald and he still has small hands.

Yes...you're right...the IRS had said that they can be released during an audit! Again, the reporters failed! They should have thrown this line back to Trump...."The IRS said it's perfectly legal for you to show your tax returns while you're being audited!! You can't use that as an excuse anymore!"

Yes...I saw where KellyAnne has asked that question of maddow and cooper. What Rachel and Anderson should have said back is, "Oh, but it's ok for your boss to call Ted Cruz a liar, and Hillary crooked???"
