(5,106 posts)I agree with those who say that congress should just change the name to "Trumpcare." It would be the easiest way to go.

(81,323 posts)I actually saw a Facebook exchange where the smug trumpster, who HATED "Obamacare" and celebrated the new threats against it, insisted that he didn't give a damn if it was repealed and not replaced. He was thrilled at the prospect! Because he knew HE was gonna be okay. He wasn't on "Obamacare". He had the ACA.
I swear... if we're gonna restrict the right to vote, THAT'S where we should start.

(58,785 posts)And kind of agree with that last. Given that democracies are usually destroyed from within, perhaps we should require voters to demonstrate a very basic understanding of how governments function, ours in particular, a slight raising of the bar that would make it that much harder on average to deceive whole populations.
But I really favor a "no yelling fire in a crowded nation" law to curb widespread professional-level dissemination of political lies. We thought the internet would raise the bar naturally. It still might, but it has been manipulated to raise the levels of ignorance and hyperpartisan hostility to combustion points instead.

Not Jim Crow. Provide w study materials, like a driver's license. Still, sounds really Anti democratic.
There is a problem when so much of the electorate, even with a college education, is so unbelievably stupid, illogical, uninformed, and proud to be ignorant.
You have to be 18 to vote, as you are supposed to have some judgment and ability th o be informed. These people often have a mentality of 2 to 14.

Then we got into a bit argument about why I believe Jefferson/Jackson were wrong about the common man and Hamilton/Adams were right.

(18,124 posts)but only there fuhrer will be able to convince them of that when their 'entitlements' are decreased and/or cut off. Their howls of pain at betrayal will be heard around the world. The 19% hardcore ARE and will still be too stupid to object...and won't jump off the sinking ship...they will go down with the rest of the rats while singing the 'Horst Wessel Song'......
