we regularly had stray cats walk in the building which were "adopted" by employees there. The problem is that nobody took the cats home with them (I'm not supposed to have pets in my apartment either) and they'd always wander outside again. There was no cover just outside the building, but lots of cover (flora) several yards away in almost all directions. Those cats "disappeared" on a regular basis. I had seen several coyotes around there.

I drove out for lunch one day and saw a bird hunched over on the road eating an animal (maybe a rabbit?), so I parked alongside it (there was no traffic on the road) and started to lean over to peer out the passenger window at it. The bird then stood up and looked at me through the window! It was an eagle! Holy crap, it was big! It threw me for a loop because it didn't look that tall while hunched over. It flew to a nearby tree and I continued driving to pick up lunch.
