Commanding general of D.C. National Guard to be removed from post

By Peter Hermann January 13 at 11:08 AM

The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.......................

and looking forward to chaos would require some disregard for one's own wellbeing. And we know he doesn't engage face to face but gets safely distant and then flames. We have a pattern of that.

As for reason, how about just a petty exercise of power, with the rationales being "I can" and "I want?"

Incredible.

Unbelievable! Why do I think Trump did not bother to discuss this with any of those generals he likes to surround himself with? Except possibly-demented Lite General Flynn...

Which tends to confirm that the Trumpers are simply sending form notices to every presidential appointee. This particular appointee arguably should have submitted a resignation letter a month ago as requested by President Obama the day before the election. That practice is designed to allow an incoming administration to decide who, if anyone, to keep on and who to let go. But that sort of decision making is beyond the abilities of the Trump transition teams, so they're just clearing the decks without bothering to make any case by case determinations as to whether it would make more sense to keep a particular person on board, at least for some period of time.

I'm guessing you don't know what martial law is and what the constitutional limitations on its imposition are.

Extrapolating from the fact that Trump's team is giving out blanket termination notices rather than engaging in the typical case by case review to martial law is indeed very silly.

As I pointed out in another post, President Obama, on November 7, directed all of his appointees (with certain limited exceptions) to submit resignation letters by December 7. I don't think the General was in the exempt group. And while a normal president's transition team would have decided which appointees to let go and which to keep on, even if for a limited period, I don't think Trump's folks have a clue so they just decided to fire 'em all and let God sort 'em out, to paraphrase Arnaud Amalric.

There have been many things that Trump has said and done that makes me think that he will enforce a military rule. I think we are going to be losing a lot of freedoms. He has spouted on about wanting to strengthen our military a lot. Do you really think that is to only have international influence? We as the common people are in a lot of danger.

Fri Jan 13, 2017, 05:26 PM
Jan 2017

"If, in foreign invasion or civil war, the courts are actually closed, and it is impossible to administer criminal justice according to law, then, on the theatre of active military operations, where war really prevails, there is a necessity to furnish a substitute for the civil authority, thus overthrown, to preserve the safety of the army and society; and as no power is left but the military, it is allowed to govern by martial rule until the laws can have their free course. As necessity creates the rule, so it limits its duration; for, if this government is continued after the courts are reinstated, it is a gross usurpation of power. Martial rule can never exist where the courts are open, and in the proper and unobstructed exercise of their jurisdiction. It is also confined to the locality of actual war."

not say screw you to all of us and adopt that as HIS law? Trump is a bad person and most of the people he has in his cabinet will be right there with him. There will be no way to oppose him/them. So maybe it will not be Martial law to be exact but I would not be surprised to see army people all over with guns and having our freedom of speech taken away and only being allowed out at particular times. When deep down he knows most of us did not want him and how he got the presidency is extremely questionable he is going to need to do something to maintain power and control. The Republicans have shut down the government before and I would not doubt if they do it again but on a much grander scale. Why would anybody be surprised if Trump went against any laws?

I posted about it on FB and got owned after WaPo changed their story and now it comes out that it is completely bullshit. The bullshittiness was confirmed by liberals. Apparently WaPo modified their story and didn't leave notes that they did.

I don't mean to sound anti-wapo but you may want to check before spreading this story. If I am wrong and this isn't incorrect please let me know. Thanks.
